Стажировки, а также более продолжительные командировки со стипендией в западноевропейские страны частично оказались полезными в области решения стоящих перед нами профессиональных задач (напр., автоматизация), частично же дали возможность провести весьма успешные исследования хунгарики. В память скончавшегося в 1973 г. заведующего отделом нашей библиотеки, бывшего заведующего Службой международного обмена, активного сотрудника IFLA д-ра Иштвана Гомбоца Школа библиотековедения, действующая в рамках Университета штата Кент, США учредила стипендию. Впервые в 1974/75 учебном году стипендией воспользовался один из наших сотрудников. О крепнущих международных связях Государственной библиотеки им. Сечени говорит и тот факт, что если в 1973 г. число заграничных командировок было 37, то в 1974 г. это число поднялось до 65, а в 1975 г. — до 66. В 1974 г. было принято 30, а в 1975 — 27 библиотекарей на более продолжительные командировки. The Activities of the National Széchényi Library in the years 1974-1975 The last two years of the National Library were marked by improvement in several spheres, like the modernization of the services, and the elaboration of reform-schemes relating to these spheres. Work on the computerization of the Hungarian National Bibliography is approaching the final phase

; inter-library services have entered a higher stage. It has been found necessary to reconsider the traditional methods of processing and informing — mainly necessitated by rationalization and by the need to comply with the demands of the adopted international standards. Part of the stacks in the new building under construction has been completed, and by the end of 1975 40 per cent of the holdings was transferred there. Since the library is expected to work in the old building until the end of the present decade, the division of the holdings will continue to create serious difficulties in meeting the requests of the readers. Acquisitions The numerical details of the acquisitions are given in Tables 1 — 2 respectively. In the acquisitions policy of the Library the main emphasis is naturally on acquiring two copies of all the publications printed in Hungary

: one series of archival copies, and another for daily use. We also pay great attention to hungarica: to publications in the Hungarian language or relating to Hungary which appear outside the territory of Hungary; here the international exchange of publications is of great help. From other foreign publications our traditional spheres of collection (linguistics, literature, history, history of books, library history, works of reference) determine the pattern of acquisitions. The new acquisitions of the Department of Manuscripts are headed by the papers of many recently deceased Hungarian men-of-letters and scholars. In a. foreign auction we succeeded in buying an early 13th century codex of Hungarian proveniance, and auctions held in Hungary resulted in acquiring four further incunabula. The Music Collection have started to collect the autograph notes of contemporary Hungarian composers. During these two years the holdings increased with 76 331 books, 10 124 volumes of periodical publications, 21 007 manuscripts, and 136 565 other documents, i.e. with 244 027 library units. 69
