was an investigation of the number of staff. An unified method of library statistics was worked out. The work of the scientific and special libraries has taken a particular character: Direction is exercised by the Methodological Working Committee formed from the members of the methodological sections of the network centres. The exchange of experiences serves a closer co-operation. Other working committees have also been formed

: technical committees for the development of libraries, bibliographical committees, etc. The character of the training and special training has also changed. In Debrecen and Szombathely in the teachers' training colleges educational library schools were set up, that is why the intermediate public librarian training in the Centre of Library Science and Methodology has ceased. Instead of it there is a specialized training for scientific and special librarians with four branches: social and medical sciences, technical and agricultural. The extension training remains the task of the networks, whereas the Centre for Library Science and Methodology organizes conferences and acts as a centre for extension training in ideology and cultural policy for librarians and adult educators all over the country, organized by the Ministry of Education. The research work in librarianship is greatly supported by the documentational activity of the Centre for Library Science and Methodology and by its Bulletin. A wide-range system of information in library science has been developed by the Department of Information which co-ordinates its activity with those of the similar institutions in Hungary and abroad. The "Express Information of Hungarian and Foreign Literature on Library Science and Documentation" has been lauched. The library science journal "Könyvtári Figyelő" (Library Heview) have been published also by this institution. Administration The administrative body acting next to the director has regularly discussed the tasks to be complied with and has passed its resolutions. The Department of Administration has been in charge of controlling the fulfillment of the plans and resolutions, took an active part in draxing up the plans, in co-ordinating the activity of the departments, in keeping up the home and foreign relations of the library, as well as in dealing with the administration. The drawing up of a three years program for the completion of the tasks in connection with the moving into the new home of the library, was of first importance. In 1965 the library disposed of a 17 million forints and in 1966 of a 17.8 million forints budget. Besides the working costs considerable sums could be spent to renewal and to the building up of the new storage house. The construction of the new home of the library in the once royal castle in Buda has been going on as planned. Considerable assistance has been rendered by the experts of the library to thedesigners of interior setting. 54
