INTRODUCTION The Mammal Collection of the Hungarian Natural History Museum (HNHM), Budapest currently houses over 400 specimens of recent primates belonging to 130 taxa. The Museum's oldest specimen is a Blue-eyed Black Lemur (Eulemur macacoflavifrons) that came from the Budapest Zoo in 1870, just three years after JOHN EDWARD GRAY had described this subspecies. From the 19 t h century to the present day it is a common practice that primates are exhibited in zoos and menageries. After they had died, these specimens were deposited in the HNHM or in the collections of other scientific institutions (Institute of Experimental Medicine of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Semmelweis University), where they remain until today. Unfortunately, many of these specimens are associated with little or no Annls hist.-nat. Mus. natn. hung. 102, 2010
