E-mail: sziraki@nhmus.hu Abstract - Coniopteryx (Xeroconiopteryx) kinali sp. n., with brachypterous female is described from Hungary. C. (X. ) platyarcus SZIRÁKI et VAN HARTEN, 2006 is reported as new to the fauna of Europe, and Xeroconiopteryx MEINANDER, 1972 as a new subgenus to Hungary. Discussion on the geographical distribution of the C. mongolica and C. orba species groups, and on the possible origin of the new species is given. With 13 figures. Keywords - New records, new species, brachypterous female, geographical distribution, Hungary. INTRODUCTION Xeroconiopteryx MEINANDER, 1972 is the most diverse subgenus of Coniopteryx CURTIS, 1834. It is distributed worldwide, with the exception of continental Southeast Asia. The species included inhabit mostly arid or semiarid territories. Hitherto only one species, Coniopteryx (Xeroconiopteryx) loipetsederi ASPÖCK, 1963 has been known from the Carpathian Basin, which surprisingly - was found in the north-western part of this area, in Devinska Kobyla, Male Karpaty, Slovakia (VlDLlCKA 1995). In the years 2004 and 2005 three Xeroconiopteryx specimens were found in Hungary representing two different species. MATERIAL AND METHODS Two of the examined specimens (a male and a brachypterous female) were captured by D-VAC insect collector from litter below a young Populus nigra
