Kontschán, J.: New Rotundabaloghia Hirschmann, 1975 species (Acari: Mesostigmata: Uropodina) from the Dominican Republic
smooth and filiform. Ornamentation of ventral shield alveolate. Peritrema hook-shaped. Stigmas situated between coxae 2 and 3. Genital shield of female linguliform and with alveolar ornamentation. The anterior part of the genital shield localized between coxae 2. Gnathosoma: not clearly visible (covered by coxae 1). Male, deuteronymph, protonymph and larva unknown. Material examined - Holotype: female, "Loc. 20. Dominican Republic, S of Arraga, primary submontane wet rain forest, from moss from tree, 26.11.2003. leg. J. Kontschán". Etymology - This species is named after the village (Arraga) of its origin. Remarks - The new species is similar to the species Rotundabaloghia ovaligynella HIRSCHMANN, 1992, which has short filiform ventral setae, but the V7 setae have a serrated margin in its apical part. All ventral setae of the new species are smooth. Rotundabaloghia pocsiana sp. n. (Figs 15-17) Diagnosis - Dorsal setae short and filiform. Ornamentation of dorsal and ventral shield lacking. Sternal and ventral setae on small humps and short, smooth and filiform. Genital shield of female linguliform and with foveolate ornamentation. Description - Female. Length of idiosoma 360 pm, width (in the middle of idiosoma) 290 pm. Shape oval, posterior margin rounded. Dorsal side (Fig. 15): dorsal and marginal setae short, smooth, filiform, and placed on small humps. Ornamentation of dorsal and ventral shield lacking. Ventral side (Fig. 16): ornamentation on sternal shield lacking. Sternal and ventrianal setae long, smooth and filiform. Two pairs of ventral setae situated near metapodal line. Ventral shield without ornamentation. Stigmae situated between coxae 2. Peritrema hook-shaped. Genital shield of female linguliform and with foveate ornamentation, situated between anterior margin of sternal shield and posterior part of coxae 4. Gnathosoma: not clearly visible. Male (Fig. 17): length of idiosoma 370 pm, width (in the middle of idiosoma) 280 pm. Shape oval, posterior margin rounded. Dorsal side similar to the female. Ventral side: sternal shield with alveolar ornamentation, ventral shield without pattern. Sternal and ventrianal setae long, smooth and filiform. Genital shield of male circular and between coxae 4. Deuteronymph, protonymph and larva unknown. Material examined - Holotype: female, "Loc. 15, Dominican Republic, near Jima village, degraded rain forest, from moss, leg. J. KONTSCHÁN". Paratype: male, locality and data same as the holotype. Etymology - This species is dedicated to the noted bryologist, Dr. TAMÁS PÓCS, who helped the author with collection of the materials in the Dominican Republic.
