References to papers "in press" must mean that the article has been accepted for publication. References to "personal communications" and unpublished work are permitted in the text only: references to papers in preparation or submitted are not permissible. All necessary illustrations should accompany the manuscript, but should not be inserted in the text. All photographs, graphs and diagrams should be numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals in the order in which they are referred to in the text. Smooth, glossy photographs or positive prints should be sent unmounted wherever possible and should be kept to a minimum. Figures should be of good quality. Explanation of lettering and symbols should be given in the figure caption and only exceptionally in the figures. Lettering and symbols to appear on the illustration should be of sufficient size to allow for considerable reduction where necessary (usually proper for a 50% reduction in size). Scales must be indicated on micrographs, not by magnifications in the legends. Figure size must not exceed 24 x 30 cm. On the back of each illustration should be indicated the author's name, the figure number (in Arabic numerals), and the top of the illustration, where this is not clear. Half-tones should be included only when they are essential. Details and quotation of publication of colour plates should be made to the editors. Legends to figures should give sufficient data to make the illustration comprehensible without reference to the text. Tables and appendices should be constructed so as to be intelligible without reference to the text, numbered in Arabic numerals and typed on separate sheets. Every table should be provided with an explanatory caption and each column should carry an appropriate heading. Units of measure should always be indicated clearly (metric units are preferred). All tables and figures must be referred to in the text. Authors are asked to kindly respect the following typing rules: (a) Do not type: any word by using Capslock or Format Character Uppercase; multiple spaces; multiple tabs; multiple points, etc. Do not type tabs outside tables. Between numbers use en dash. (b) Do not make any words expanded. (c) Personal names should be typed in small caps, except for authors that are listed in the title of a publication in a reference. (d) Symbols for the sexes make as "#" for male and "$" for female or type them as whole words, never make them as e.g. "o" completed with hand-written marks. (e) Abbreviations for all taxonomical novelties are used, in all languages, in a latinized form, e.g. "gen. n.", "sp. n.", "stat. n.". (f) Data about primary types (Holo-, Lecto-, Neo- and Syntypes) are required as a quotation of the original writing, i.e. re-written from labels and put in quotation marks; this is not obligatory in the other type categories. (g) Do not duplicate a reference by using its abbreviated literature source in the preceding parts of your text plus its full citation in the References section below. (h) Only standard abbreviations should be used. Arbitrary abbreviations and jargon will not be accepted. (i) The Latin names should be given for all species used in the investigation, although taxonomie affiliation and authority need not be provided in the title. Author and year of description should be mentioned at least when the genus-group or species-group taxon is mentioned at first in the text. Authors of taxa must not be abbreviated. Page proofs will be sent to the author (or the first-mentioned author in a paper of multiple authorship) for checking. Corrections to the proofs must be restricted to printers' errors. Any substantial alterations other than these may be charged to the author. Authors are particularly requested to return their corrected proofs as quickly as possible in order to facilitate rapid publication. Please note that authors are urged to check their proofs carefully before return, since late corrections cannot be guaranteed for inclusion in the printed journal. Fifty reprints free of charge will be sent to the first author; extra copies of the issue (at a specially reduced rate) can be ordered from: The Editorial Office of the Annales, Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest, Baross u. 13, H-1088, Hungary.
