Buhl, P. N.: Platygastridae (Hymenoptera) from Mongolia

notauli; hind margin medially with a small, rounded, dark, smooth (not swollen) plate covering base of scutellum, laterally with a few long hairs. Mesopleuron smooth. Scutellum (Fig. 61) smooth, laterally moderately hairy, posteriorly slightly semitransparent, with a short prolongation with a narrow lamella below. Metapleuron smooth and bare except for white, long pilosity medially and along hind margin. Propodeal carinae semitransparent, rather long, fused. Fore wing almost clear, 0.9 x as long as body, 2.8 x as long as wide, with fine and dense microtrichia; marginal cilia at their longest 0.1 width of wing. Hind wing 6.9 x as long as wide; marginal cilia slightly more than half the width of wing. Metasoma (Fig. 62) 1.1 x as long as mesosoma, fully as wide as this, about 1.6 x as wide as high, smooth and shiny except T6 which is somewhat dull; apical tergites with a few superficially implanted hairs. Material examined - Holotype female: Mongolia, Chövsgöl aimak, 3 km SW of Somon Burenchaan, 1600 m, 21.VI-16.VII. 1968. Remarks - Differs from S. brevis BUHL, 1998 in lacking occipital carina, from S. zomborii BUHL, 2004 in having longer marginal cilia of fore wing, and from both in having smaller tooth on scutellum and more elongate fore wing. Cf. also BUHL (1998a, 2004/?). Synopeas cryptus sp. n. (Figs 63-67) Female - Length 1.1-1.4 mm. Black; antennae, mandibles and legs dark brown; base of tibiae and segments 1^4- of tarsi lighter brown. Head from above (Fig. 63) 2.2 x as wide as long, 1.1 x as wide as mesosoma, distinctly and almost uniformly reticulate-coriaceous; occiput evenly rounded, without carina. OOL:LOL = 3:4. Head in frontal view 1.2 x as wide as high; antenna (Fig. 64) with Al 0.75 x as long as height of head. Mesosoma hardly 1.5 x as long as wide, 1.2 x as high as wide. Sides of pronotum reticulate-coriaceous all over, somewhat smoother along hind margin. Mesoscutum rather sparsely and evenly hairy, slightly weaker reticulate-coriaceous than head, without notauli; hind margin medially with a broad, blackish, slightly dull prolongation to base of scutellum; scuto-scutellar grooves with dense hairs. Mesopleuron with weak longitudinal sculpture in upper half, rest smooth. Scutellum (Fig. 65) faintly reticulate-coriaceous, medially with few hairs, laterally denser hairy, slightly angled posteriorly but without modifications, rarely with a small tooth indicated at posterior angle. Metapleuron smooth and shiny in about anterior third, rest with pilosity. Propodeal carinae low, dark, straight, fused. Fore wing 0.8 x as long as body, 2.4-2.5 x as long as wide, almost clear with fine and dense microtricia, without marginal cilia. Hind wing 5.1 x as long as wide; marginal cilia 0.3 width of wing. Metasoma (Fig. 66) as long as head and mesosoma combined, slightly wider than mesosoma, 1.25 x as wide as high. Hind margin of T2-T5 distinctly reticulatecoriaceous, T6 with such sculpture almost all over; T3-T6 with some fine hairs. Male - Length 1.0-1.4 mm. Antenna (Fig. 67). Material examined - Holotype female: Mongolia, Bulgan aimak, 30 km NNW of Somon Daschincilen, 1200 m, 15.VI.1968. Paratypes: 18 females, 5 males, same data as holotype.
