Gál, E.: Catalogue of the recent bird bone collection in the Hungarian Natural History Museum. Part 1: Sphenisciformes through Phoenicopteriformes

Peru, east to southern Brazil and Uruguay. The only explanation for it being recorded as coming from Csánytelek may be that it escaped from a zoo or game park, similar to those individuals which escaped from wildfowl collections and have been found in Iceland, Britain, and Denmark (CRAMP 1998). Compared to other European early and famous bird bone collections, the Hungarian collection may appear modest. Nevertheless, it provides a good basis for basic identification of fossil and subfossil remains, especially in the case of local species, and it certainly occupies an important place among Central European collections. * Acknowledgements - I am grateful to the board of Department of Palaeontology and Geology for the access to the collection.
