Radoinova, D., Tenekedjiev, K. ; Yordanov, Y.: Stature estimation according to bone length in Hungarian population
CONCLUSIONS AND DISCUSSION 1. A new database of stature and lengths of three long bones are obtained from contemporary Hungarian population. They could be compared to and combined with other similar data. 2. New regression dependencies for stature are derived from the same long bones - humerus, tibia and fibula, and a combination of humerus and tibia with Hungarian population of either sex. 3. The created new regression formulae are more adequate for Hungarians in comparison with other well-known formulae, because they are based on observations on the same population. 4. A convenient automated computer system made easy estimation of living maximal and age-corrected stature of the individuals possible, as well as the necessary characteristics of regression equations - the standard error of assessment and the confidence intervals can be derived. 5. The nomograms allow quick manual height calculation from a single bone data and it is also possible to determine its confidence intervals. In order to estimate the actual stature the prediction of maximal stature by nomograms on Figs 1-3,5-6 and 8 or by formulae (l)-^(3), (5)^(9) should be corrected downwards according to GILES and BORCAN age correction method. For convenience on Fig. 9 the age decline of the stature is plotted according to GILES (1991) and BORCAN et al (1983). * Acknowledgements - We thank Dr. ALEXANDER VARRÓ and Prof. Dr. PÉTER SÓTONYI, director of the Institute of Forensic Medicine, Budapest for having given us the opportunity of taking all the measurements.
