Éry, K.: Anthropological studies on a Late Roman Period population at Tác-Margittelep
d) Fractures were detected on different parts of the skeleton in the case of men and women. e) The population, in general, belonged to a dolichocranic group of the Europoid great race with medium high stature. A smaller group of tall or very tall stature may have been of German origin. 0 The 4th—5th century population of Tác-Margittelep did not differ much from the contemporary inhabitants of Eastern Transdanubia. Taking into consideration that in the same area, the Late Roman period population did not show major differences from the 6th—8th century population either, it is presumable that the surviving Roman period inhabitants became part of the Avar Period population in Eastern Transdanubia. * * * Acknowledgements - Several colleagues offered help during the study of the material. Their kind assistance must be acknowledged here. JENŐ FlTZ gave me information on the historical and chronological background of the cemetery, while VERA LÁNYI provided detailed insight into the archaeological data. ANTÓNIA MARCSIK and FERENC SZÁLAI diagnosed pathological cases, ALICE B. CHOYKE and LÁSZLÓ BARTOSIEWICZ prepared the English translation, LAJOS RÓKA the photographs. Additional thanks are due to JEAN-PIERRE BOCQUET-APPEL for the spatial autocorrelation analyses carried out on the material and to MICHAEL FlNNEGAN who analyzed biological distances based on the non-metric traits of skulls. Gratefully thanks are due to MÁRTA FERENCZ for the unpublished stature data of the Solymár series and to the help of SZABOLCS MAKRA with computing the data. REFERENCES ALEKSEEV, V.P. & DEBETS, G. F.
