( 1998): Three new genera and two new species of Hydrochidae from different parts of the World (Coleoptera). - Annls hist.-nat. Mus. natn. hung. 90: 139-150. Abstract - Three new genera and two new species of Hydrochidae are described: Deepakius gen. n. from South Africa, Amrishius gen. n. from Sri Lanka and Rishwanius gen. n. from South America, Deepakius amrishi sp. n. from South Africa, Hydrochus viclyae sp. n. from Paraguay. Five new synonyms arc proposed (senior synonym first): Hydrochus coeneni MAKHAN, 1992 = H. orchymonti OLIVA, 1996; Hydrochus dewnaraini MAKHAN, 1992 = H. crislatus OLIVA, 1996; Hydrochus granulatus BLATCHLEY, 1910 = H. studiosorum OLIVA, 1996; Hydrochus merkli MAKHAN, 1993 = H. multicostatus OLIVA, 1996; Hydrochus purpureus KNISCH, 1920 = H. pseudosecretus OLIVA, 1996. With 30 figures. INTRODUCTION Dr. S. ENDRŐDY-YÜUNGA of the Transvaal Museum, Pretoria, South Africa sent me some Hydrochidae specimens for identification. One new genus and two new species were found among them. In this paper two additional new genera are also described and four new combinations are reported. Holotypes of Deepakius amrishi sp. n. and Hydrochus vidyae sp. n. are deposited in the Transvaal Museum, Pretoria, South Africa. OLIVA (1996) put seventeen species in synonyms, but in my opinion these species are distinct species. She identified the species only by the shape of interstriae. However, the interstriae are very variable in Hydrochus specimens. The Hydrochus species can only be identified by comparing the male genitalia and the numbers of spines on the last abdominal sternite. OLIVA (1996) described 5 new species. These species are identical with species described earlier, so they are relegated to synonymy. In this paper I give some figures for the male genitalia and the last abdominal sternite of some earlier described species. The abdominal spines of the other species will be published later when duplicates become available.
