(1998): Plant types of Sándor Jávorka in the Hungarian Natural History Museum in Budapest I. - Annls hist.-nat. Mus. natn. hung. 90: 115-132. Abstract - 38 types from 24 taxa of Sándor Jávorka, i.e. 17 lectotypes, 14 isolectotypes (syntypes) and 7 neotypes arc elaborated, which are deposited in the Herbarium Carpato-Pannonicum and in the Herbarium Generale in the Department of Botany, Hungarian Natural History Museum in Budapest. With 7 figures. INTRODUCTION In this paper the author continues to discuss the type specimens (KOVÁTS 1975, 1982, 1984, 1992) which are to be found in the Herbarium Carpato-Pannonicum and in the Herbarium Generale in the Botanical Department of the Hungarian Natural History Museum with the 38 types of SÁNDOR JÁVORKA. He was one of the greatest Hungarian flora researcher. JÁVORKA is not only the author of the first complete Hungarian Flora (Flora Hungarica, 1925) which consists of more than 4242 species from the Carpato-Pannon area, but he is the author of 126 taxa as well. JÁVORKA described 67 taxa from the Carpath-Pannon area. The loci classic! of 12 taxa are in Hungary, 51 taxa are in Transylvania and Slovakia'and 4 taxa are in Dalmatia (Croatia). He discovered 59 taxa and described 58 from the Balkan Peninsula - 59th taxa described by MARKGRAF-DANNENBERG (1972-73) - 45 from Albania, 10 from Bulgaria and 4 from Greece. Twelve taxa with the authorship of JÁVORKA are mentioned in some items of literature and appear on some herbarial sheets without descriptions; these names are nomina nuda. 122 taxa together with some nomina nuda - of JÁVORKA were already mentioned by ZÓLYOMI (1962) in the obituary of JÁVORKA. He worked in the museum for 55 years (1905-60), more than 6 years ofthat time as director (1919, 1934-40). The herbarium of JÁVORKA - including his original and type specimens - is deposited in the Botanical Department of the Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest. It is a great pity that some of his original herbarium material was destroyed during the 2nd World War. Therefore some types of JÁVORKA and some specimens of his original collections cannot be found in our herbaria and in these cases neotypes need to be designated. In most of the cases JÁVORKA did not designate his types,
