With 27 figures. INTRODUCTION According to FRANZ (1980, 1983, 1985, 1989) four species of the genus Scydmaenus LATREILLE and 18 species of the genus Euconnus THOMSON have been described from Suriname. In the present paper further five species of the genus Scydmaenus and 19 species of the genus Euconnus are described from Suriname. Euconnus satishanandi is the first species of the genus for Curacao and Euconnus sommeijeri is the first species for Tobago. The male genitalia are characteristic within the genus. The parameres of Euconnus are present, while those of Scydmaenus are absent. The Scydmaenidae species are often almost indistinguishable except by comparison of the male genitalia. Euconnus rishwani is the second species from South America with black antennái segments. The first species, Euconnus festivus SCHAUFUSS, 1867 from Brazil has a two-segmented club of antennae (SCHAUFUSS 1867) but Euconnus rishwani has a five-segmented club. I collected the Suriname species in damp places under leaves. The holotypes are housed at the University of Suriname, Department of Entomology, Paramaribo, Suriname. Some paratypes are deposited in the Hungarian Natural History Museum (HNHM), Budapest.
