Makhan, D.: Thirty-five new Hydrochus species from the Old and the New World (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae)

Description (holotype male): Body elongate, length 3.7 mm, width 1.3 mm. Dorsal side shining. Colour of head, pronotum, scutellum and elytra black, with a blue-green metallic gloss. Head with fine punctures. Pronotum longer than wide, lateral side with granules. Disc with five large deep depressions. Anterior margin of pronotum with three depressions, one at the centre, two behind this. Posterior margin with two depressions. Elytral length 2.4 mm, elytra widenest on posterior third, lateral side smooth, striai punctures coarse, wider than interstriae, 3rd, 5th and 8th interstriae carinate in almost whole length. Tubercle absent Apical holes absent. Elytral apices rounded. Male genitalia (Fig. 23): Basal piece long, páraméra longer than median lobe. Etymology: This species is named after my nephew CHATTERPAL RADJIE. This species is very similar to //. polaki sp. n., the male genitalia are different. Hydrochus polaki sp. n. (Fig. 24) Holotype: male. Australia, ex. coll. WEYERS (date unknown) (Mus. Brussels) (only the holotype). Description (holotype male): Body elongate, length 3.8 mm, width 1.4 mm. Dorsal side shining. Colour of head and pronotum, scutellum and elytra black with a blue-green metallic gloss. Head with dense, fine punctures. Pronotum longer than wide, lateral side smooth. Disc with five large deep depressions. Anterior margin of pronotum with three depressions, one at the centre, two behind this. Elytral length 2.4 mm, elytra widest on posterior third, lateral side smooth, striai punctures wider than interstriae, tubercle absent, interstriae flat. Apical holes absent. Elytral apices rounded. Male genitalia (Fig. 24): Páraméra longer than median lobe, basal piece long. Etymology: This species is named after my friend MARCEL POLAK. This species is similar to H. victoriae BLACKBURN, 1898 from Australia. Lateral side of pronotum in H. victoriae with granules, in H polaki smooth. Hydrochus aschnakiranae sp. n. (Fig. 25) Holotype: male. Solomon Is., Guadalcanal, Roroni, 35 km E of Honiara, 10 m, 6.V.1964 (Bishop Mus.). ­Paratype s: 10 males, 15 females (1 male Mus. Budapest). Description (holotype male): Body elongate, length 3.3 mm, width 1.2 mm (one female 3.0 mm long). Figs 22-28.
