MERKL, Budapest & K. VÍG, Szombathely GRUEV, B., MERKL, O. & VÍG, K: Geographical distribution of Alticinae (Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae) in Romania. - Annlshist-nat Mus. nam. hung. 1993, 85: 75-132. Abstract - A list of 233 species of Alticinae recorded from Romania is given, complemented with references to literature, locality data and general distribution. Four species are new to Romania. The present paper summarizes the distributional data of all the species and subspecies of the subfamily Alticinae hitherto known to occur in Romania based on the literature and on a number of specimens investigated by the authors. KONNERTH-IONESCU (1963) was the first who attempted to survey the species of the subfamily in Romania. Her paper contains data of 152 taxa (excluding the synonyms) published by various authors until 1949. The subsequent list supplements the above-mentioned paper with a number of further taxa known to occur in Romania, with additional data published before and after 1963, and with new localities. Four of the species (Chaetocnema heikertingeri, Ch. montenegrina, Longitarsus absinthii, L. kutscherai) are recorded for the first time from Romania. It is clear from the list of species that there remains much to be studied of the Alticinae of Romania. The majority of data from both the literature and the investigation of specimens is old. Most of the records come from Transylvania while other parts of Romania are poorly represented. Nevertheless, this paper may be considered a summary of the present state of our knowledge of the faunistics of Romanian flea beetles and may serve as a basis for further studies in the future. PRESENTATION OF DATA The full name of the species along with the year and place of the description, is given at first. This is followed by reference to papers in which the Romanian occurrence of the species in question is mentioned. These are numbered by figures in square brackets. In the "Distribution in Romania", data of the literature are listed as given in the referred papers indicated by the above-mentioned figures in square brackets. In the "Material examined", the localities are cited as written on the labels and (if stated) are complemented with the date of collecting, the name of the collector(s) and [in square brackets] the abbreviation of the depository of the specimens (see below). In the case of species with more than 10 localities only the geographic names and the depositories are listed. A considerable number of the geographic names in the literature and on the labels are written in Hungarian or in German. Their Romanian equivalents are given in the gazetteer following the list of species. The following acronyms indicate the collections in which the studied specimens have been deposited: DEI = Deutsches Entomologisches Institut, Eberswalde; GC = B. GRUEV'S collection;
