Abstract - Lectotype designations of 5 species of Sphenoptera and one species each of Trachys and Cylindromorphus described by E. REITTER are given. All the types are deposited in the Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest. Through the kindness of the late Dr. Z. KASZAB and of Dr. O. MERKL at the Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest (HNHM) I had the opportunity to investigate the type material of some species of Buprestidae described by E. RErrrER and to designate lectotypes, the information concerning them (sex, body length and labels) is represented below. The text of the consecutive labels are separated by slash (/), the handwritten labels are marked with [h] and the printed ones with [p]. Besides the labels mentioned below, all the specimens bear red-framed labels tagged by the museum staff with the full name and the author of the species and the year of description as well as "Holotypus" or "Paratypus". The earlier designation of holotypes and paratypes are incorrect as REITTER has never used these terms in his descriptions. The lectotype designation presented here is indicated by red labels handwritten by the author with the following text: Lectotypus or Paralectotypus; generic name, species name, Reitter, year of description; Kalashian det. 1986. Sphenoptera anthaxoides REITTER, 1895: 42. - Lectotype, male, 7.4 mm. Labels: Caucasus. Araxesthal. Leder. Reitter [p] / Coll. Reitter [p] / Sph. anthaxoides m. 1895 [h], Paralectotype, male, 8.8 mm, with the same labels except the latter. Sphenoptera antoniae REITTER, 1891: 142. - Lectotype, male, 12.8 mm. Labels: Caucasus. Araxesthal. Leder. Reitter [p] / Coll. Reitter [p] / Antoniae m. [h]. Paralectotype, male, 12.7 mm, with the same labels except the latter. Sphenoptera arlemisiae REITTER, 1889b: 281. - Lectotype, female, 10.1 mm. Labels: Caucasus. Araxesthal. Leder. Reitter [p] / Coll. Reitter [p] / Sphenoptera Artemisiae m. 1889 [h]. Three paralectotypes, females, 9.2 and 9.5 mm, with the same labels except the latter, and 7.3 mm, with the labels: Caucasus. Armen. Geb. Leder. Reitter [p] / Coll. Reitter [p]. Besides the above-mentioned specimens, in the collection of the HNHM there are 16 specimens labelled by the museum staff as "Holotypus" and "Paratypus" of Sphenoptera artemisiae v. molitor REITTER (1890C: 168).
