Abstract - On the basis of 91 cenological samplings and the results of computer analyses made on the largest community of Odvas Hill (open dolomite rocky grassland - Seseli leucospermo-Festucetum pallentis) 4 sample groups were separated. Signs of degradation appear in the composition of the vegetation both of the open and the closer rocky grassland communities. The relatively high number of the Mediterraneansub-Mediterranean elements and of species having chamaephyton and nanophanerophyton life-form as well as xerophilous and thermophilous species are characteristic. With 10 figures, 2 tables and 3 checklists. INTRODUCTION The 314 m high Odvas Hill lies near Budapest, north of the village Budaörs. The whole territory of the hill is a nature conservation area belonging to the Nature Preservation Area of Buda. The hill is completely surrounded by gardens and cultivated areas. The studied territory is rising above 200 m on the southern and 250 m on the northern side. The parent material of the hill is dolomite, Triassic diplopore dolomite and Eocene base-conglomerate (WEIN 1977). On the southern side earthy barren and shallow rendzina, on the northern side deep rendzina have developed on the base rock. Thorough cenological and vegetaion-historical analyses of ZÓLYOMI (1932, 1958) about the vegetation of dolomite hills are known, so our intention was to make a survey about the highest summit of the Odvas Hill , an extremely valuable territory, which is today nearly island-like and isolated still having a more or less natural vegetation. Therefore, we have compiled its complete floral list, made cenological studies in open rocky grasslands in order to prepare the vegetation map of the Odvas Hill. Method The floral list of the vegetation of Odvas Hill has been drawn up after a number of tours and cenological samplings. To prepare the vegetation map we have had a sketchy map plotted on the basis of air photos on which the visible vegetation boundaries are delineated. Thus our task was to identify and characterize the separated units, in the first place, the stand spots signed number 3 on the vegetation map. To this we have made the cenological analysis of the more or less open rocky grasslands. The place of the sampling was chosen so that the open rocky grassland on the southern-southeastern sides and the little closed and more or less different stands of the southwestern, western and northwestern slopes signed as separated vegetation units on the sketchy map be represented.
