Forms, transitional forms belonging into the group Xanthoderma: - A. xanthoderma GENEV. var. lepi otoides MAIRE: cap - according to PILÁT ­turning brownish-greyish and more or less strongly cracked. - A. xanthoderma GENEV. var. meleagroides (PEARS.) BON et CAPP.: cap first white, then more or less covered with dark, black squamules. It may be a transition towards A. praeclaresquamosus FREEMAN. - A. velenovskyi PIL. (= A. nigricans (VEL.)): cap first white, on influence of sunshine greyish brown, especially towards the margin with darker squamules. It may be a transition between A. xanthoderma GENEV. and A . praeclaresquamosus FREEMAN. XIX. group: Pilatianus la - Spores 7-9(11) x 5.5-6.5(7) jam, the largest in the sectio Xanthoderma­tei. On sandy areas. Cap 5-10(15) cm, whitish, later with a light ochre or light rosaceous­greyish shade. Gills first pale, than flesh rosy or greyish rosy. Stem 6-12(15) x 1.5-4(5) cm, cylindrical or slightly clavate or fusiform, white, yellowing when handled. Ring double, collar-like. Flesh yellowing especially in the stem-base. Smell weak, later carbolic. Cheilocystidia ovoid to pear-shaped, often 3-4 cells in chains. CAPP. II: 176; CAPP. Ill: 521 A. menieri BON (= Psalliota ammophila MENIER) lb - Spores smaller: 5-7 x 4-5.5 urn 2 2a - Large sized: cap 12-20 cm 3 2b - Middle sized: cap 5-12 cm. Cap white when young or in the shade, as for the rest smoky-brownish or brownish-greyish and only in spots whitish; squamulose or clearly squam­ose. Gills first almost white, then more or less rosy. Stem 5-8(15) x 2-3 cm, cylindrical or attenuated towards the base, white, sometimes brownish, turning chrome-yellow when handled. Ring double, not rarely triedged, col­lar-like. Spores 5.5-7 x 4.5-5.5 jam . Cheilocystidia clavate-, balloon­shaped, 22-30 x 6-13 jjm. On disturbed soil in parks, gardens, cemeteries and near roads. BOH. IV: 1±; CAPP. II: 172; CAPP. Ill: 515, 517 A. pilatianus BOH. var. pilatianus 2c - Differs from the type: cap first entirely brownish or greyish-brownish and fibrillose, later squamulose-squamose on lighter underground. It is similar to A. silvaticus or A. haemorrhoidarius A. pilatianus var. silvaticoides BOH. 3a - Smell strong carbolic. Cap first entirely brownish grey, then cuticle broken up into fibrillo­squames on a lighter ground. Gills rather wide. Stem B-9 x 2.5-5 cm, at­tenuated towards the base, whitish, turning chrome-yellow when handled. Ring double, collar-like. Flesh in stem-base turning deep chrome-yellow. Spores 5-7 x 4.5-5 jam . On sandy soil in gardens from spring A. pilatianus f. magnus BOH. 3b - Smell jodoform-like . Similar to former one. Differs from it: cap may be darker and lighter co­loured, towards the margin lighter or whitish, squames often wide. Spores may be more or less trapezoid too. Cheilocystidia clavate, balloon-shaped or with 1-3 septae, 20-30 x 8-15 jam . On manured places, on sandy soil too in gardens and parks, from spring; occurring in clusters too. CAPP. II: 173; CAPP. Ill: 519 A. iodosmus HEINEM. XX. group: Pseudopratensis la - Stem without mycelium-strands. Flesh turning on cut-surface yellow, then flesh colour, brownish red or wine-red. Cap 3-7 cm, cuticle soon broken up into greyish brown or hazel-brown squa­mules or squames on whitish or greyish white underground, disc more or less greyish brown. Gills vividly rosy or flesh rosy. Stem 3-5 x 0.7-1.2 cm, cylindrical or enlarged downwards, white. Ring may be rather thick too, sometimes brownish on the edge. Smell more or less carbolic or like Indian ink. Spores 5-7 x 4-5 jam. Cheilocystidia clavate, 18-25 x 7-8 jam.
