Gills brownish rosaceous, Stem short: 4-6(8) x 2-3 cm, to­wards the base enlarged, whitish brownish,' towards the base with 2-3 rows of brown squames; base often with a mycelial strand. Ring simple. Flesh with a red colour change, often apricot yellow towards the base. Spores 5.5-6.5 x 3.5-5 Aim. Cheilocystidia balloon-shaped or clavate, 16-28 x 8-14 Am. Stem as a rule long, slender: 10-16 x 1-1.5 cm, not rarely deeply imbedded in the soil, lighter coloured as the cap. Ring sim­ple. Flesh reddening when young. Spores 7.4-10 x 4.5-5.5 Am. Cheilocysti­dia pear-shaped, clavate, 20-35 x 10-25 Am. In frondose and coniferous woods. CAPP. Ill: 437 ; PIL. I: II, 73, 74: A. annae PIL. (= A. silvaticus 3. SCHFF.: FR. var. pallens PIL.) 3a - With a slender habit: stem longer than the cap wide. Stem relatively thin . Cap 6-13 cm, brown, covered with small or larger fibrillo-squames outside the disc. Gills rosy, edge whitish. Stem 8-23 x 1.-2.5 cm, cylindrical or attenuate below, may be slightly bulbous too, white, under the ring con­spicuously and darker fibrillo-squamose , in zones too. Ring double, with a cog-wheel ornamentation towards the margin on the underside. Flesh quickly turning blood-red. Spores 7-9 x 4-5 Am. Cheilocystidia balloon-shaped, 20-25 x 13-20 Am. Under Picea .
