Lagria australis CHAMPION, 1895 (Figs 15, 23, 84, 103) Lagria australis CHAMPION, 1895, p. 229. — Lagria australis: BORCHMANN, 1910, p. 7; BORCHMANN, 1915, p. 79, 80; BORCHMANN, 1936, p. 43, 47. Body elongate, rather slender. Head and pronotum dark blue, shining. Scutellum reddish Elytra blue, often with purplish, rarely with slight greenish tinge, shining, sutura, lateral sides and epipleura usually reddish, suturai reddish colouration sometimes indistinct. Ventral surface reddish. Antennái segments I to IV dark reddish brown, gradually becoming darker, segments V to XI black. Femora largely reddish, femoral tip, tibiae and tarsi black. Dorsal surface covered with moderately long, semierect to erect, sparse, greyish white pubescence. — Length 8-11 mm. rf. Head coarsely and moderately densely punctate. Interocular distance less than 1.5 times as wide as eye diameter (IOI = 136.8). Frons slightly impressed. — Antennae rather stout (Fig. 15), segment I shorter than half of interantennal distance (IAI = 30). Relative lengths of segments VI to XI are 10: 10: 11: 11: 9: 26, i.e. last segment much shorter than 3 preceding combined. — Pronotum slightly transverse (PNI = 90.3), slightly narrowing anteriorly. Punctation coarse, not very dense. — Elytra with punctation finer and sparser than that of pronotum, interspaces distinctly plicate. — Legs typical, tibiae unarmed, hind tibiae nearly straight. — Aedeagus as figured (Fig. 23). — Habitus : Fig. 103. $. Size larger on average. Interocular distance 1.5 times as wide as eye diameter (IOI = 150). Antennái segment I much shorter than half of interantennal distance (IAI = 24). Relative lengths of segments VII to XI are 11: 11: 12: 10: 22, i.e. last segment as long as 2 preceding combined. Pronotum more transverse (PNI = 88). Type material — One of the two Champion's types was found. It is herewith designated as lectotype, with the following labels: Syntype [circular with blue margin] | Type [circular with red margin] | Adelaide River N. W. Australia J. J. Distribution: Western part of Arnhem Land, including Melville Island (Fig. 84); prob" ably extends to the coast of Gulf of Carpentaria, but the eastern part of Arnhem Land is insuffici" ently explored. Non-type material examined. Total 129 specimens — Northern Territory: Adelaide River (1, BMNH); id., 13.15 S 131.06 E, 17. X. 1972, M. S. Upton (1, ANIC); Alligator R., from P. Cahill, 22.
