Merkl, O.: A review of the Australian species of the subtribe Lagriina (Coleoptera, Tenebrionidae: Lagriinae)

lateral sides subparallel, surface with moderately coarse and dense punctation. — Elytra weakly dilated, with punctation somewhat finer and less dense than that of pronotum. Interspaces barely plicate. — Legs slender, tibiae unarmed, hind tibiae nearly straight. — Aedeagus as figured (Fig. 18). — Habitus: Fig. 95. 9. Size larger on average. Interocular distance broader than that of male, but narrower than eye diameter (IOI = 83.3). Antennae with segment I much shorter than interantennal distance (IAI = = 34.8). Relative lengths of segments VII to XI are 11 : 9 : 10: 10: 29, i. e. last segment about as long as 3 preceding combined (Fig. 8). Pronotum distinctly transverse (PNI = 70), with a more or less developed median area with troubled punctation. Elytra more dilated. — Habitus: Fig. 96. Type material — Holotype f , labelled as follows: 1 mileN. of Kuranda, 1200 ft. Q. 23. Apr. 1969 I. F. B. Common & M. S. Upton | Holotypus rf Lagria plumbeipennis Merkl, 1987 [red]. XL 1971, J. G. & J. A. G. Brooks (2 fçf, ANIC). Distribution: It is restricted to tropical rainforest spots of northern Queensland (Fig. 82). Remarks — The combination of decumbent elytral pubescence, the entirely black antennae and legs and the considerably elongate last antennái segment clearly distinguish this new species from the Australian congeners. Lagria tenera sp. n. (Figs 9-10, 17, 25-26, 83, 97-98) Body elongate, slender slender. Head, pronotum and scutellum dark metallic green, shining. Elytra greyish brown with faint green tinge, shining. Ventral surface black, abdomen reddish brown. Antennae largely yellow, segments IX to XI darker. Legs black with distal and proximal end of tibiae brownish. Dorsal surface clothed with rather short, nearly decumbent, whitish grey pubescence mixed with semierect to erect hairs. Length 7.5-9 mm. rf. He ad coarsely and densely punctate. Eyes conspicuously large, interocular distance narrow, somewhat wider than half of eye diameter (IOI — 64.7). — Antennae long and slender (Fig. 9), segment I as long as half of interantennal distance (IAI = 50). Relative lengths of segments VI to XI are 13 : 13 : 14: 12: 11 : 38, i. e. last segment about as long as 3 preceding combined. — Pronotum slightly transverse (PNI = 83.6), widest anterior to middle, sides arcuate, surface with punctation moderately and very dense, subcontiguous. — Elytra elongate, subparallel-sided, punctation as coarse as but less dense than that of pronotum, interspaces feebly plicate. — Legs relatively long, fore femora strongly, middle and hind ones weakly swollen. Fore tibiae unarmed, nearly straight ; middle tibiae weakly curved, with 3 small teeth at the apical 2/5 (Fig. 25) ; hind tibiae distinctly curved, extending before apex, with 4 small denticles at the inner edge of the expanded part (Fig. 26). — — Aedeagus as figured (Fig. 17). — Habitus: Fig. 97. 9. Size larger. Eyes somewhat smaller, interocular distance narrower than eye diameter (IOI = = 82.4). Antennae long and slender (Fig. 10), segment I much shorter than half of interantennal distance (IAI = 33.3). Relative lengths of segments VII to X are 12: 13 : 13 : 10: 28, i.e. last segment somewhat longer than 2 preceding combined. Pronotum more transverse (PNI = 81.2). Elytra distinctly dilated. Femora not swollen, tibiae unarmed, nearly straight. Habitus: Fig. 98. Type material — Holotype, f , labelled as follows: Gordon's Mine Area, Iron Range, N. Qld. 12-18. III. 1976 G. B. Monteith Rainforest | Holotypus <f Lagria tenera Merkl, 1987 [red.]
