Merkl, O.: A review of the Australian species of the subtribe Statirina (Coleoptera, Tenebrionidae, Lagriini)
Re m arks — The only Sora species hitherto described from the Papuan-Australian faunal territory is Sora biroi Pic, 1956. The new species has a similar colour pattern, but differs from S. biroi in having the prothorax shorter, the pronotum much more coarsely punctate and elytral striae not reaching the apex. This species is dedicated to Dr. John F. Lawrence (Canberra). * * * BOHEMAN (1858, p. 102) described Eut rape I a australica in the family "Trachelides" from Sydney. BORCHMANN (1910a, p. 14) catalogued it under the same binomen, but, since Eutrapela BLANCHARD, 1845 is an Afrotropical genus, after the specific name he put: "(?Nemostira)", although, according to me, he had not seen the type. Later, he listed it in the genus Synatractus (BORCHMANN 1936, p. 400). I have had an opportunity to examine the type specimen and revealed that it is certainly not a Lagriine but belongs to the subfamily Alleculinae. It is labelled as follows: Sidney / Kinb. / Type. / Typus [red] / australica Bhn [handwritten] / 303 86 [pink]. The type is deposited in NRSS. As I am not familiar with Alleculinae, I should not venture to make the generic reassignment of this type. The specimen must be considered whenever the Australian species of Alleculinae are revised.
