Kordos-Szakály, M. ; Kordos, L.: Morphotypes of Hungarian fossil Celtis (Urticales) stones

Fig. 2. Characteristic cross-sections of the Celtis morphotypes : p i 11:1 = Rudabánya, 2 = Polgárdi, sphere: 3 = Rudabánya, 4 = Osztramos 1., 5 = Csarnóta 2/0., 6 = Osztramos 7., 7 = Osztramos 8., 8 = Tarkő 16., 9 = Tarkő 1., 10 = Magyarkő; pillow: 11 = Rudabánya, 12 = Polgárdi, 13 = Csarnóta 2/2., 14 = Tarkő 16., 15 = Tarkő 1., 16 = Magyarkő The pattern of the outer surface becomes fully developed parallel with the individual development of the stone already by the ontogenesis. Sometimes the basis is connected with the apex by meridional crests. Along the separation plane a division crest develops which has always a straight. On mature but undivided specimens it has a furrow. Further meridional main crests are common which connect the basis with the apex without interruption. Their starting point, direction and cross section are variable among the types and are usually characteristic for the different types. Meridional secondary crests are frequent. They connect the poles parallelly with the main crests or derive from them. The outher surface of the stony endocarp frequently lacks crests, in this case it has a certain roughness caused by grooves, has a mosaic-like character or a net-like and unsystematical pattern.
