SZUJKÓ-LACZA, Budapest SÁNDOR JÁVORKA was born in the 12th of March, 1883 in the village of Hegybánya (Piarg) near Selmecbánya (Banská Stiavnica, currently in Czechoslovakia). Having graduated from university in Budapest he joined the Botanical Garden of the University of Budapest (where he worked from 1th of November, 1904 till 30th April, 1905) but soon he became a staff member of the Botanical Department of the Hungarian National Museum, in 1905. He worked here as a curator of the collection Flora Hungarica till 1934 and afterwards as an appointed director of this department. He retired at the age of 60, but continued his scientific work till the day of his death. Dr. Sándor Jávorka 1883-1961
