discoidal punctuation is finer than that of the head, nowhere, very close, and becomes rather more distant and finer towards the sides; at the base, between the middle and each side, there is a transverse impression. Scutellum transverse, rounded behind, smooth. Elytra oblong, wider than thorax at the base, the lateral margins very distinct, even at the shoulders, and quite definitely though not strongly expanded between the middle and hind thighs, but become finer behind ; there is a distinct suturai depression near the base ; they are more distinctly but less closely punctured than the head, more finely towards the extremity ; along each marginal channel there is a series of rather coarser punctures." „Legs stout. Tibiae minutely calcarate at the extremity. Antennae robust, bearing yellow hairs; 2nd joint short, as long as exposed portion of the 1st; 4th also short, quadrate; joints 5-8 transverse; 9th rather longer than 10th; the terminal subovate, not thicker than the preceding one." „Underside transversely convex, shining, very finely and sparingly pubescent. Prosternum distinctly punctate near the sides, its margins broad and flattened, its process sharply bisulcate between the coxae and depressed at the basal margin. Mesosternum on a lower plane than the raised edges of the middle coxae, medially punctate; trochanters small. Metasternum rather short, scarcely longer than the middle of the basal ventral segment, its sides punctate, angularly impressed medially behind; 2nd segment with the frontal suture rather fine in the middle, but with a well-marked transverse impression at each side; 3rd with an elongate foveiform impression at the sides; 4th and 5th short, the front of each on a lower level than the apex of the proceding one ; the basal 3 are more distinctly punctured near the sides than on the middle." ,,Altogether different from L. priscus; more nearly approaching L. crassicomis, but distinguishable therefrom by the less-prominent eyes and antennary elevations, distinct (especially in front) marginal channels, finer punctuation, and evidently uncurved apex, of the thorax, &c." 1 7 „Length, 2^ lines; breadth, quite line." ,,Waitakerei Range. Two in my own collection." Untersuchungsmaterial. 30. Lorelus crassicomis BROUN, 1880 (Tafel V, Abb. 25) Lorelus crassicomis BROUN, 1880: Man. N. Zeal. Col.: 382. Die Originalbeschreibung lautet : ,,682. L. crassiconis n. s. This species is larger and more robust than either of the preceding ones [L. priscus Sharp], of nearly the same colour, being castaneous, with brownis-yellow legs and pitchy-red antennae. Head piceous, its sculpture consisting apparently of shallow puncture and minute granular elevation, so that it has a slightly rugose or roughened aspect ; the antenna! orbits are considerably elevated, and curvedly prolonged inwardly, so that but a small space intervenes between them in front; the eyes are distinct, being a little more convex and granular than in the typical species. Prothorax transverse, shorter than that of L. priscus; the apex is truncate, the sides rounded, with a very slight sinuation behind, the margins are a little explanated, and the posterior angles are rectangular; the disc being rather convex gives a somewhat depressed appearance to the sides and base, and the surface in closely punctured. Scutellum transverse, rounded, punctulate. Elytra transversely convex, margined, and moderately closely but not coarsely punctured, the punctuation becoming finer posteriorly, and having on the discoidal space a very slightly rugose appearance; they are scantily clothed with fine, short, yellowish hairs proceeding from the punctures. Legs proportionally stout, the tibiae inwardly armed at the apex with a minute spine". ,,The antennae are about twice as thick as those of the previously described species, and distinctly pubescent; the second joint is relatively small; third longest and almost obconical; joints five to eight decrease in length only; the ninth and tenth are transverse and much larger than the contiguous ones, the terminal joint of maxillari palpi large, quite securiform."
