mely saline habitats, where the active stage of the vegetation period is short and often interrupted by the drying of the soil usually eroding the A and B horizons of the soil. These environmental factors may be due to the fact that the flowering time of S. media and S, rubra coincides in May-June. The hybridization process and as a result of it the difference between the seeds in a capsule and between the capsule of the same exemplare of S. salina also may be of help by the architecture of Spergularias. S. media and S. rubra have dichotomous cymes and the flowers on the inflorescence axes develop subsequently. * * * Acknowledgements — The authors gratefully acknowledge Miss KATALIN KAPITÁNY for her drawings and MRS.
