Nagy, I. Z.: In memoriam Dr. Ilona Csepreghy, née Meznerics (1906-1977)

6 I. Z. NAGY demonstrated when she was elected as member of the Commission de Stratigraphie du Congrès Géologiques International and the Comité du Néogene Méditerranéen. Her work was readily acknowledged in Hungary too, the following awards speak for themselves: Medal of Merits in Socialist Culture in 1952; Medal of Merits in Socialist Work in 1961; the silver degree of the same in 1966; the gold degree of the same in 1970. In 1975 she was elected as an honorary member of the Hungarian Geological Society. In the latter years of her scientific activity she edited the 2nd edition of the Hungarian volume of the Stratigraphical Lexicon and wrote the items concerning the Miocene. Her muselogical activity is also outstanding. The Geological and Paleontological Department has been twice reorganized, first after the Second World War, then after the fire in 1956. The examplary display of the material and the orderly handling were well known both at home and abroad. These museological principles and viewpoints were also put into effect in the Dobó István Castle Museum at Eger. She organized the much comment ed exhibition "The Evolution of the Earth and Life" of the Natural History Museum opened in 1954 and renovated in 1960. She was a leading figure in the life of scientific organizations. She was electing member for years in the Hungarian Geological Society, and chairman in the Paleontological and Stratigraphical Section. She was a member of the editorial boards Földtani Közlöny and Annales. She died on the 14th of January, 1977. Her departure made a void in scientific life and caused a painful pang in her colleagues and circle of acquaintances since her positive attitude to life, work and other people are unforgettable.
