Tenora, F. ; Murai, É.: Cestodes recovered from rodents (Rodentia) in Mongolia

ANNALES HISTORICO-NATURALES MUSEI NATIONALES HUNGARICI Tomus 07. Budapest 1975. Cestodes recovered from Rodents (Rodentia) in Mongolia by F. TENORA, BRNO & É. MURAI, Budapest Abstract — First account of cestodes from rodents in Mongolia. Members of Hymenolepididae, Anoploeephalidae and Catenotaeniidae were found ; species of Catenotaeniidae and Anoploeephalidae were studied in detail. Catenotaenia asiatica sp. n. (Catenotaeniidae) from Cricetulus barabensis is described. In connection with the description of this new species, the systematic and taxonomic status of cestodes of the genus Catenotaenia JANICKI, 1904, is disclosed in detail. With 6 figures. DR. F. MÉSZÁROS, helminthologist in the Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest, had occasion to collect helminths from small mammals in Mongolia, in August 1972. The area studied was a characteristic steppe, at 900—1400 m a.s.l., between Barun-Urt and Bajanterem (112° 38'—113° 04' E longitudes and 46° 52'—47° 44' N latitudes). Besides parasitic nematodes, also some specimens of cestodes were recovered from rodents. Since no records have been available on the occurrence of cestodes in rodents from the territory of Mongolia, this is the first account of the species indentified. Owing to the fact that the specific identification of cestodes of the family Hyinenolepididae is to be verified yet, detailed data on cestodes of the families Catenotaeniidae and Anoploeephalidae are given only. The cestodes were obtained by dissecting 4 specimens of Cricetulus barabensis. Two of them harboured cestodes of the family Catenotaeniidae and only 2 cestodes were recovered. Of the 7 dissected Alticola roylei, 2 specimens also harboured cestodes. One of them was parasitized by a cestode of the family Hymenolepididae and a cestode of the family Anoploeephalidae, while in the other host specimen a cestode of the family Anoploeephalidae was found. Also 82 specimens of Microtus brandti and 2 specimens of Marmota bobac were autopsied, but no cestodes were found in the latter species. CATENOTAENIIDAE SPASSKY, 1950 Catenotaenia asiatica sp. n.
