Description of the leaf epiderm: On the abaxial and axial sides of the innovational leaves the cells are small, narrow. Cell walls thin, straight. Senile blades with vary weakly developed costal zone, 1—3-seriate ; parenchymatous cells comparatively short, irregularly alternating with silica-bodies; these latter rarely double, regularly cubic, with straight walls, seldom between two parenchymatous cells. Intercostal zone generally 6—-7-seriate; parenchymatous cells elongate, with parallel walls, sporadically alternating with minute macrohairs, median field with frequently double, elongate, larger macrohairs. Lowest blades frequently without the two fields (or hardly discernible), and with the parenchymatous cells densely alternating with elongate and thin macrohairs. Costal zone of juvenile blades 1—-4-seriate, cubic silica-bodies regularly alternating with parenchymatous cells (more elongate than those of the senile leaves). Intercostal zone 4—5-seriate, parenchymatous cells elongate, with parallel walls, minute macrohairs only very sporadically present, middle of the field with regularly bigger macrohairs. The narrow, glabrescent blades with 3—5-seriate costal zone, the sporadic silica-bodies longer, intercostal zone 3—4-seriate, macrohairs only sporadically and as primordia present. Cellular rows very narrow (Plate II, Fig. 3, Plate III, Fig. 1) Stomatal cells 32 p. A gracile plant, medium tall, densely, or loosely caespitose, latter originating from its extravaginal innovation. Rhizome ramifying, 3—5 cm long, 3—5 mm broad, sublignous, vetust vaginae whole or slightly broken into filaments, 1,3—1,5 cm long, pallid. Stature 23—35 cm senile blades 5—10 cm long, 1.5—2 mm wide, densely hirsute, deplanate or weakly convolute weakly auriculate. Vaginae 1.8— 2,5 cm long, puberulous with adpressed minute hairs. Ligulae whole, rounded or abrupt, very minutely ciliate. Juvenile blades 4—25 cm long, 1—1,5 mm wide, largely convolute, viridiescent or slightly cinereous, glabriusculous, marginally scabriusculous, partly — especially based — ciliate, hardly auriculate; vaginae 1—3 cm long, sericeous with very small adpressed hairs. Ligulae whole, rounded, 0,2—0,5 mm long, very minutely ciliolate. Grown culm foliate beginning with one third its heigth, uppermost blades 1—-4 cm long, 1,5—2,3 mm wide, acute, glabriusculous, sligthly convoluted, marginally minutely scabrisculous, auriculate, vaginae 6—7 cm long, apper parts pubescent, basad more densely pubescent. Ligulae 0,3 mm long, dentate or partially bicarinate. Culm 18—27 cm long, 1 mm thick, densely and compactly pubescent, apical glabrescent. Panicle 4—4,5 cm long, 1 cm wide, cylindrical or elongately cylindrical, compact, basad slightly interrupted, with a pale violet suffusion, minutely and sporadically hirsute. Spiculae
