he could not do otherwise, that the specimen has an expressedly loose extra vaginal innovation. In the other two specimens the rhizomes are not bulbous. The panicle of a fourth specimen has a faint violet suffusion. DOMIN considered this latter nearly allied to subvar. Geilingeri DOM., but not worthy of description. The decidedly extravaginal innovation, the elongated, greyish-green and glabrous blades, the loose and cylindrical panicle and spikelets of the plant display the characteristics of Koeleria montana (HATJSM.) D.T. This relegation was finally decided by the anatomical examination of the leaves. On this basis, Koeleria splendens PRESL 3. var. pyramidata (DOM.) DOM. subvar. Geilingeri DOMIN equals Koeleria montana (HAUSM.) D.T. var. geilingeri (Dom). UJHEHYI (Pate I. Fig. 2). Planlae graciles, laxe caespitosae, innovationibus extravaginalibus, rhizomatibus usque 4 cm longis, elongatis; altitudine usque 54 cm. Vaginae foliorum basalium usque 3 cm longae, pubescentes, vaginae veiustae integrae, rufescentes, vel flavescentes. Folia senilia minute adpresse hirsuta, aut glabra, ad hasim in margine longe pilosa. Ligulae abruptae. Folia juvenilia usque 10 cm longa, valde convoluta, glabrescentia vel glabra, sparsissime ciliata, obscure viridia, vaginis usque 3 cm longis, ligulis abruptis. Culmi plantarum evolutarum ad 2/3 partem foliosi, laminae foliorum culmeorum usque 4.5 cm longae, et 0.8 mm latae, minute convolutae, glabrae, vaginis 10—12 cm longis. Paniculae cylindricae, usque 11 cm longae, et 1 cm crassae, valde lobatae, in parte inferiors interruptae, viridis, nitidulae. Spiculae 5—6 mm longae, bi-triflorae. Cellulae epidermidis laminae inferiorum foliorum innovationum parvae. Series cellularum costalium 2—4, intercostalium 4—7. Habitat: in pratis siccis caespitosis Montii Alpii Centrali. K. DOMIN. The structure of the leaf epiderm highly resembles that of the nominate form. The basic structure is identical, with only the parenchymatous cells also elongated, owing to the elongate blades. In the intercostal zone, the bases of the minute microhairs occasionally appear on the juvenile leaves, and the micro-hairs of the senile blades alternate in regular rows with the parenchymatous cells (Plate II, Fig. 3). The loosely cespitose gracile plant much resembles the nominate form, differing by the presence of some hirsute ones among the senile vaginae. The panicles of the strongly elongated plant are also elongated, narrowly cylindrical, shghtly lobate
