Coccomyxa dispar SCHMTDLE var. antarctica var. n. (Figs. 22-23) Proximum adest ad Coccomyxa dispar Schmidle sed differt ab ea : 1. forma et 2. dimensione cellular urn (3-4 / tiX7-9 p). Habit in nive viridis Insula Haswel, Antarctica. Cells elliptical or cylindrical, occasionally slightly arcuate (Fig. 22), 11-4 u wide and 7-9 u long, with a very thick, colourless mucous envelope. It stands near SCHMIDLE'S Coccomyxa dispar, differing by 1. its size (smaller), 2. and ID some extent in its shape. Green cryoscston types Írom the Antarctica The; following green cryoseston types were hitherto known from the Antarctica and in general from the entire Southern Hemisphere : A) Chlorophyta I. Volvocales type: Chlamydomonas ballenyana KOL, Balleny Island, Sabrina Island (KOL-FLINT 1908), terre Adéléi' (KOL 1971). II. Clilorococcales type: 1. Chlorella antarctica (FRITSCH) WILLE, Petermann Island ((JAix 10 12), Haswel Island (KOL 1972); 2. Braeteococcus minor (CHOD.) PETROVA var. glaciális FLINT, Balleny Islands (KOL-KLINT 1968), Terre Adéléi (KOL 1971]; 3. Anhistro­rjesnui* antarcticus KOL, Sabrina Island (KOL 1968a). III. Ulotrichales type : 1. Raphidoneman/'yaZe LAGERH., Wiencke Island (GAIN 1912); 2. Raphidonema antarctica KOL, Signy and Coronations Islands, South Orkneys (KOL 1972); 3. Stichococcus nivalis CHOD., Petermann, Wiencke, and Boothe-Wandel Island (GAIN 1912). B) Chrysophyta IV. Xanthophvceae tvpe: Pleurochloris anomala var. antarctica KOL, Haswel Island (KOL 1968a). Algae from the environs of Mac Mahon I found the following algal species in A. PIASEK'S collection: Chlorosphaera antarctica FRITSCH (Figs. 18-20), Sphaerocystis schroeteri var. nivalis FRITSCH, Prasiola crispa (LIGHTF.)
