•nivalis CIIOD., Chlamydomonas antarcticus WILLE (Figs. 9-10), Coccomyxa dispar var. antarctica KOL (Figs. 22-23). I observed these algal species not only in the preserved material (mainly in their young developmental stages), but some of them were successfully brought also into culture from the desiccated samples. In these cultures, Chlorella antarctica (FRITSCH) WILLE, Pleurochloris anomala var. antarctica KOL, and Sphaerocystis schroeteri var. nivalis FRITSCH thrived well. In laboratory conditions, the cryobiont species are rather difficult to bring into culture. Table 1.
