Ujhelyi, J.: Data to the systematics of the sections Bulbosae and Caespitosae of the genus Koeleria, XI.

sides of the innovational leaves the cells are large. Cell walls thick, weakly sinuous,, densely and pittedly incrassate. Senile blades with weakly developed 2-4-seriate; costal zone. Parenchymatous cells only very finely sinuous, with comparatively thinner walls, densely and pittedly incrassate, consisting mostly of long parenchymatous cells, sporadically alternating with oblong silica-bodies ; here and there also long, very weakly suberous cork-cells also occuring. Intercostal zone 6 - 10-seriate, parenchymatous cells highly resembling those of costal zone, but wider and still longer, regularly alternating wéth primordia of minute micro-hairs, and alternating in median row with stomatal cells ; (the longer hairs may develop by favourable environmental effects from the primorida of the larger micro-hairs ; these specimens represent var. subpubescens DOM. In this latter case, in the macroscopically still seemingly glabrous blades the primordia of the larger macro-hairs are sporadically or densely present in the intercostal zone). Costal zone of juvenile leaves strongly developed, 4-5-seriate, parenchymatous cells comparatively narrow, elongate, very weakly sinuous, cells decidedly elongate, irregularly but densely alternating with silica-bodies ; these latter elongately oblong, three to four times longer than wide ;. intercostal zone 4-5-seriate, parenchymatous cells elongate, long, sinuously decurrent, regularly alternating with minute macro-hairs, in inner rows with primordia of larger macro-hairs, in median row or even biseriately also stomatal cells alternating with parenchymatous cells, thicker cell walls densely and pittedly incrassate Dimension of stomatal cells : 50 p. (Plate IV, Figs. 1-2). The densely cespitose specimens of the decidedly robust plant constitute distinct tussocks in the subalpine and alpine regions. Innovations generally intravaginal, but also extra vaginal proles can also be observed. Rhizome recumbent, ramifying, slightly elongated, specimens attaining a length of 8-10 cm also occur. A plant considerably more robust than its progenitor (Koeleria tuzsonii UJH.J, at least 3 mm thick, lignifying, a 50-75 cm high, elate species. Also its vetust vaginae 7 cm long, pale, occasionally brownish, sericeousiy shining owing to appressed or accumbent long hairs. Senile blades 15-22 cm long, expanded, 1.8 mm wide, greyish-green, originaUy hirsute but glabrescent, when senescent fragmenting, therefore frequently appearing shiny, weakly auriculate, margin of lower sections frequently cihate, also their vaginae long (7 cm), with a sericeous lustre owing to appressed hairs. Ligulae 0.5 mm long, obtuse, marginally deeply lacerated and thus ciholate. Juvenile blades slightly convolute, exterior ones 2 mm wide, inner ones merely 1.5 mm broad, greyish-green, glabrescent, in fauce cihate, with cilia extending also to margin of underside of leaf (as in senile blades), vaginae also very long and very finely puberulous. Ligulae apically obtuse, 0.8 mm long, marginally ciliolate. Culm robust, in fully grown specimens attaining even 60 cm, 1.5 mm thick, below panicle not only pubescent but also villose owing to long and erect pili among the dense, short hairs. Pih shortening downwards, culm there rather densely puberulous ; hairs twice as long and dense as in Koeleria tuzsonii UJH., (while the culm of Koeleria tuzsoniiVJU. becomes wholly glabrous downwards, that of Koeleria eriostachyaPAiNfC. is throughout hirsute). Panicle robust, occasionally definitely long, reaching even 10 cm in length, 1.5 mm thick, widely cylindrical; in juvenile state, or in smaller specimens, attenuating apicad, only 4-5 cm long, owing to elongation of lateral shoots its lower part more or less lobate, pale in accordance with its subalpine to alpine habitats, usually, however, dark violet, entire panicle densely pubescent, occasionally glabrescent. Spikelets large, 7 (9) mm long, oval, 3 mm wide, extremely long spikelets narrower, mostly triflorous (or even more), rarely biflorous ; surface elongately pubescent. Lower glumae 5.5 mm long, lanceolate, upper ones
