Finally, the Osztramos I fauna seems to fall between the „Zone de Teruel" and ,,Zone de Perpignan" of THALER (1966, p. 256) in the Western European stratigraphy. An immediate comparison with these zones is more difficult, since the chief characteristic guide fossils of the Western European stratigraphy in the Pliocene, namely Ruscinomys and Stephanomys, lack from our territory (Perpignan recently revised be HTJGUNEY & MEIN, 1966). A comparison with zoogeographically more removed territories, e.g. Rhodes. (BRUIJN, DAWSON-MEIN, 1970), is rather difficult despite the presence of these very near forms (i.e. Episoriculus). I do not attempt a correlation of the new Hungarian stratigraphical unit with the classical ones (as Astian, Plaisansian, Levantinian or Dacian), being conscious of the fact that it may represent a part of one of them.
