nating from between the Danube and the Tisza and beyond the Tisza, respectively. Taking this statement in account, the male series stand relatively nearer to those from Alattyán-Tulát, Jánoshida-Boldogháza, Aporkaiürbőpuszta, and Tiszavárkony. With respect to the upper face height and the bizygomatic breadth, there is a difference from also the other series. The topographic nearness appears also in the case of the finds from Alattyán-Tulát, Aporkaiürbőpuszta, JánoshidaBoldogháza, Tiszavárkony, and also with respect to Vachartyán. Concerning the upper face height and the orbital index, the material reflects a morphological nearness with the series from Homokmégy-Halom, Tiszavárkony, and Üllő I. The correlation of the nasal index and the orbital index shows a comparative agreement with the series from Adorján, Üllői, Tiszavárkony, and Homokmégy-Halom. Evaluating the results of the comparative analysis made on the female series it can be established that our material stands nearer, according to the correlation of the data of the cranial breadth and the bizygomatic breadth, to the series originating mainly from Jánoshida-Boldogháza, Aporkaiürbőpuszta, Tiszavárkony, and Alattyán-Tulát. Similarities appear, concerning the correlation of the upper face height and the bizygomatic breadth, with the materials from the preceding localities and from Üllő I. In the case of the upper face height and the orbital index, a morphological agreement appears, in the following sequence, with the series from Alattyán-Tulát, Aporkaiürbőpuszta, and Tiszavárkony, and the same holds also for the correlation of the nasal index and the orbital index. To sum up, the male series from Tisza vasvár displays a topographic nearness, with respect to the comparative evaluation of the several morphological characters, mainly with those from Tiszavárkony, Alattyán-Tulát, Jánoshida-Boldogháza, Aporkaiürbőpuszta, and Üllő I., while concerning the female series, mostly with those from Aporkaiürbőpuszta, Tiszavárkony, and Alattyán-Tulát. Summary 1. The ethnicum of the cemeteries at Tisza vasvár in the northern part of the Great Plains of Hungary shows a Europoid character. It is heterogeneous within the European great race. A recognizable part of the population can be characterized by brachycranial, another one by Cromagnoid and Nordoid-Mediterranean, elements. 2. On the basis of the correlational comparison and the evaluation of the morphological characters displayed by the Avar Period series originating from the region between the Danube and the Tisza and beyond the Tisza it can be established that the male finds from Tiszavasvár show similarities mostly with those from Tiszavárkony, AlattyánTulát, Jánoshida;Boldogháza, Aporkai-Ürbőpuszta and Üllő L, while the female series with those from Aporkaiürbőpuszta, Tiszavárkony, and Alattyán-Tulát. 3. For a more detailed analysis of the ethnicum from Tiszavasvár, one would need partly the chronological and ethnic clarification of the respective archeological investigations and the historico-anthropological study of the preceding populations, (mainly of the Sarmatians and the Germans), partly the availability of more comparative material also from the region of the northern part of the Great Plains.
