Papp, L.: Entomological explorations in Ghana by Dr. S. Endrődy-Younga. 18. A new genus and species of Asteiidae from Ghana (Diptera)
Type-data. Holotype: $ : "Kwadaso, 21. 7. 1969, light trap on field, TJV light, leg. S. ENDRŐDY-YOUNGA." Holotype preserved in alcohol, its anterior right leg missing downwards from trochanter. Paratypes: 2 çf çf , from same locality and date as holotype. Transferred to minutia pin from alcohol, hence strongly desiccated but in perfect condition. The types are deposited in the Zoological Department of the Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest. I dedicate the new species to its collector, the eminent coleopterist. Dr. S. ENDRÔDY — YOUNGA. Remarks: The new genus resembles in certain characteristics Loeurimyia SABROSKY. 1943. though manifestly relegable to another subfamily. The absence or rudimentary state of the arista, the remarkably long ciliation of the third antennái joint, the rudimentary state of the upper orbitals, and the similar coloration of the legs refer to a remarkable convergence appearing between the two genera of the two subfamilies (cf. SABROSKY 1943, 1947). Asteia nigroscutellata DUDA — Kwadaso, 9. (i. 1969, light trap on field, Quartz light, leg. ENDRŐDY-YOUNGA: 1 çf; Kwadaso, 28. 7. 1969, light trap on field, mercury vapour light, leg. ENDRŐDY-YOUNGA : 1 9 ; Kwadaso, 12. 5. 1969, light trap on field, mercury vapour light, leg. ENDRŐDY-YOUNGA: 1 O . I was able to compare these specimens with the single type-specimen in our collection, and found them in complete agreement. In all probability a frequent fly species of the Ethiopian Region. References: 1. DUDA, O. (1927): Revision der altweltlichen Astiidae (Dipt.). Ent. Zeitschr., 1927: 113-147.-2. DUDA, O. (1935): 58b.
