ANNALES HISTORICO-NATURALES MUSEI NATIONALIS LIUNGARICI Tomus 63. PARS ZOOLOGICA 1971. Ergebnisse der zoologischen Forschungen von Dr. Z. Kaszab in der Mongolei 252. Chloropidae, Part 1. Oscinellinae (Diptera) Ry E. P. NARTSHUK, Leningrad* This paper is based mainly on the material collected by Dr. Z. KASZAB, between 1963 and 1967 during his five (I —V) expeditions to Mongolia. The dipterous family Chloropidae, composed of small (1.5—5.0 mm.) grey, black or yellow and relatively inconspicuous flies, is represented in the collection by many specimens (nearly 2500). The Chloropid fauna of Outer Mongolia is almost unknown. RECKER in his paper on the Diptera of Central Asia (1907) dealt with the material originating solely from China. Only five of the following species were recorded from the territory of the Mongolian People's Republic:** 1. Rhodesiella inexpectata NARTSHUK, Central aimak, NARTSHUK, 1968: 939. 2. Centorisoma obscuripenne NARTSHUK, Central aimak, NARTSHUK, 1965: 939. 3. C. kozlovi NARTSHUK, Central aimak, NARTSHUK 1965: 940. 4. C. mongolicum NARTSHUK, Süd Gobi aimak, NARTSHUK, 1968: 941. 5. Lasiosina lateralis BECKER, Djargalangud-Bulag, Gobi, NARTSHUK, 1964: 320. In this paper I discuss the species belonging to the subfamily Oscinellinae. In the present material there are 30 species of the subfamily, of which 9 are new to science and the majority have not previously been recorded from Mongolia. During his expedition works in Mongolia, Dr. Z. KASZAB used several different methods for collecting insects. Flying insects were taken in MALAISE convection traps, while other important ways of collecting Chloropidae were the use of ethylene glycol pitfall traps and RERLESE extractions of birds' nests. These methods gave many specimens of Chloropidae and also some rare apterous and nidicolous species. It is worth mentioning that some species of Chloropidae, especially Oscinellinae, were found in ethylene glycol soil traps: *Elachiptera viator sp. n. Polyodaspis sulcicollis (MEIGEN) Goniopsita palposa (FALLÉN) Calamoncosis stijlifera sp. n. Conioscinella divitis sp. n. *Coniosc incita mongolica sp. n. Trachysiphonella scutellata (v. ROSER) Tricimba cincta (MEIGEN) Aphanotrigonum longinerve NARTSHUK Oscinella frit (L.) Dicraeus rossicus STACKELBERG * Zoological Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. ** Recently L. I. FEDOSEYEVA published the list of 16 species of Meromyza MEIG. found in Mongolia. [On fauna of genus Meromyza (Dipteria, Chloropidae) of Mongolia. 1971. Zool. Joum. 50 (6): 915—948. In Russian.]
