ANNALES HISTORICO-NATURALES MUSEI NATIONAL IS HUNGARICI Tomus 02. PARS MINERALOGICA ET PALAEONTOLOGICA 1970. Investigation of the Middle Triassie Voleaiiics oï the Transdan iiMan Central Mountains, Hungary By 1. SZAJJU and Cs. RAVASZ, Budapest In the Middle Triassic sedimentary sequence of the I lungarian Central Mountains, volcanic activities synchronous with the volcanism typical and common throughout the Alpine sedimentary basins, are manifested by thin tui'faceous limestones and various siliceous sediments. The green-mottled (glauconitic), yellow clays and marls, belonging to the lower part of the Ladinian, were described by J. BÖCKH as early as 1872, but their voicanogenic origin, tui'faceous nature, has not been mentioned, except, for a single case —the description of the occurrence at Kádárta. After the detailed investigation of the Upper Anisian to Lower Ladinian sequences of the Forráshegy at Felsőörs by L. TIÍUIÍGDI: ROTH 1872, tiie so called "pietra verde" was given a proper stratigraphie role and an up-to-date genetic interpretation. The greenish-yellow clayey marls, siliceous limestones and siliceous schists compose with I he "diabase lull" (pietra verde) layers, a very heterogeneous group of formations which have been considered to be connected with simultaneous volcanic activity. tig. 1. — 1. Sampling place. — 2. Areas of the tui'faceous type-profiles. — 3. Occurrence of Middle Triassic formation on the surface.
