DOM. cannot, on the basis of the discussion submitted in the description of Koeleria mollis MANN, be applied to the present plant. Thus a new name had to be given to it, and I dedicate the plant to the great biologist, J. B. DE LAMARCK. Description of the leaf epidcrm: The cells are very large on the abaxial and axial sides of the innovational leaves. The cell walls are thick, sinuous. The costal zone of the senile leaves are 2-5-seriate. The silica bodies, alternating with the parenchymal cells, are large, cubic. The intercostal zone is 6-8-seriate, with initiating and sparsely scattered minute macrohairs among the large parenchymal cells. In rows 1-2 of the zone, the parenchymal cells alternate with stomata. The walls of the cells in the juvenile blades are straight. The costal zone is merely 1-2seriale, the silica bodies are rare; if the costal zone is absent, the intercostal zone can also be 10-16-seriate. The parenchymal cells mingle with sporadic stomata. The blades are always free of pili.
