Zengővárkony II. The site is near the highway connecting Bonyhád and Szekszárd, 22 km from Pécs. The excavations were led by J. DOMBAY in 1934. Seventeen graves have been exposed. According to the archeologieal evaluation, the findings refer, on the basis of their relevant ethnic features and characteristical objects, to a West German group or at least a preponderance of the West German element which had been transferred to Pannónia in the fourth century A.D. The resettling was possibly connected with Constantine the Second's defense measures in Pannónia, entailing not only the fortification of the liminal defense installations but also the building of fortified towns within the province proper, thus a second defense line. The necessary and lacking manpower to this end was obtained by transsettling methods. An archeologieal material, related to the Zengővárkony complex of findings, has been excavated in the Roman camp and its environment near Dunaújváros, and brought into connection with transsettling from the Rhine area. The excavations were led by J. DOMBAY in 1936—1956. Six graves have been exposed. According to the archeologieal inferences, the occurrence of certain objects (braces, polydär glass-beads) refer to Germanic relationships.
