Farkas, H.: On the eriophyoids of Hungary. VI. The description of three new species
Figs. 1, 3: Vasatea mori sp. n. 1: Side view of female, 3: shield — Figs. 2, 4: Vasates dictamni sp. n. 2: Side view of female, 4: shield ring. Dorsal bristles 34 p, long, diverging posteriorad. Fore leg 34 p, long, tibia 5 p. long, its bristle 6 p. long, bristle in upper third of tibia, tarsus 6 p. long, claw 9 p, long, slightly knobbed and weakly arcuate. Featherclaw 4-rayed. Hind leg 28 p, long, tibia 5 u, long, tarsus 5 p long, claw 8 u. long, similar to that of fore leg. Coxae hardly granulöse, almost smooth. Abdomen with about 48 tergites ; number of ventrites only slightly exceeding that of tergites. Ventrites with dense microtuberculi touching posterior margin of rings. Microtuberculi elongated, weak or absent in tergites. Last 6 — 7 rings with elongated microtuberculi on ventral side. Lateral bristle 40 p. long, first ventral seta 65 p. long, second ventral seta 35 p, long, situated on sixth posterior ring. Accessory seta 5 p, long, thin, hardly discernible. All setae very thin, their last third attenuating to being wellnigh invisible. Genital organ of female 25 \i wide, coverflap with 12 ribs, seta 20 u long. Type-locality: Kismaros, Hungary. Not far from railway station, on rather steep, inclination of wooded hill. Collected by author, on 28 May, 1959. Host: Dictamnus albus L. Relation to host: No observable deformation caused. The mites congregated in masses at the bases of the flowers, in my opinion sucking the nectare. It was rather striking that such large numbers of Eriophyioids have been present at the beginning of summer (end of May), and the phenomenon rather resembled a gradation, or swarms, •of bees and flies visiting the sweet natural fluids of a plant. Type-material: Type-slide No. 85, and four paratype slides.
