Mészáros, F.: Three Nematodes from predatory bird species in Hungary
Three Nematodes from Predatory Bird Species in Hungary By F. MÉSZÁROS, Budapest In 1965, I received for investigation a smaller Nematode material parasitising birds* . In the present paper, I discuss the Nematodes, belonging to the suborder Spirurata RAILLIET, 1914, of three predatory bird species collected in Hungary. Family: Spiruridae OERLEY, 1885 Genus: Cyrnea SEURAT, 1914, subgenus Procyrnea CHABATJD, 1958 Cyrnea (P.) seurati (SKRJABIN 1917) CHABATJD, 1958 Syn: Habronema seurati SKRJABIN, 1917. Host: Falco subbuteo (2 specimens). Localization: intestine. Intensity: 10—14 specimens. Locality: Hortobágy, 25 July, 1957. Diagnosis: Cuticle striated transversely, striations dentate. In posterior part of body, a transversally arranged, cuticular serration between cuticular rings. Lateral alae weakly developed. Oral aperture surrounded by two trilobate lips, dentate on their interior sides. A tooth each on dorsal and ventral interlabia. Cervical papillae situated anteriorly to nerve ring. Pharynx well developed, cylindrical, chitinized. Esophagus consisting of a muscular anterior portion and a considerably longer, glandular, posterior section. Male: length: 4.2—7.5 mm, greatest width: 0.24—0.37 mm. Pharynx 0.025 mm deep. Muscular section of esophagus 0.320—0.360 mm, glandular portion 2.10—2.80 mm. Nerve ring spaced 0.161 mm from cephalic end, cervical papillae from 0.131 mm. Posterior, ventral portion of body (except for a part of caudal alae and tail) covered with cuticular elevations arranged in rows. Posterior end of body with 4 pairs of prae- and 2 pairs of postanal pedunculate papillae. Caudal end with 9 papillae, and a larger one immediately in front of cloacal aperture. Spicules unequal, 0.46—0.50 and 2.30—2.80 mm, respectively. Gubernaculum 0.09—0.12 mm. Cloacal aperture removed 0.202—0.256 mm from caudal end (Fig. 1: a, b). Female: 8.25—11.25 mm long, greatest width 0.250—0.375 mm. Pharynx 0.037 mm deep. Muscular part of esophagus 0.273 mm, glandular section 3.20 mm. Nerve ring removed 0.245 mm from cephalic end. Tail 0.160 mm. Eggs : 0.031-0.038 x 0.011—0.014 mm, containing larvae at oviposition. BABOS (1958) does not mention this species from Hungary, therefore it is new for our fauna. SKRJABIN and SOBOLEV (1963) record it from the Asian portion of the Soviet Union (Siberia, Baskiria) and from England; GTTSANSKAIA (1951) found it in the SSR Komi, also in Falco subbuteo. * Thanks are due to Dr. B. EDELÉNYI, Debrecen, for the loan of the study material.
