Gozmány, L.: The symmocid species of the Caradja collection (Lepidoptera)
the symmocid species of the caradja collection 449 Symmoca sezam sp. n. Alar expanse: 17—18 mm. Head brown, antennae yellowish-brown, slightly ringed dark, labial palpi ascendant, brush of second joint deep brown except for white tip externally, mottled brown internally, third joint long, aciculiform, yellowish-white. Scapulae, thorax, and ring around eyes yellowish. Basic color of fore wings light yellowish Lrown to greyish brown, densely irrorated with dark brown, especially along margins and within cell. Pattern deep chocolate brown to blackish, rather distinct, consisting of usual Symmoca — structure, but transverse stripes (or range of spots) more oblique than usual; immediate basal field (from shoulder of costa to about 1/5 of dorsum) brownish black; a large, diffluent spot on costa at 1/3; a large spot below it in cell, and Fig. 2. —Symmoca sezam sp. n., holotype, aedoeagus and anellus removed, gen. prep. 1672; x50 another one in fold, both widely confluent; a second and even larger preapical blotch on costa at 2/3, finely connected with two distinct, circular, discocellular, obliquely arranged spots (lower smaller than upper one), and also connected in turn with large, triangular, deep chocolate brown pretornal blotch; a brownish suffusion beyond discoeellulars forming a transversal cloud; a huge, diffluent, yet stronger cloud in whole apical area; termination of veins dotted with blackish. Cilia light yellowish brown. Hindwings light greyish brown, cilia greyish yellow. The new species was mentioned by CARADJA (1, p. 120) as a possibly „namensbereclitigte Lokalform . . ." (of nigromiculella RAG.), but he did not describe it. It differs from all its allies in the nigromaculella RAG.-group by reason of its very obliqué transversal stripes (or ranges of spots), vet, without a genital examination, it cannot be unequivocally distinguished from them. Mile genital apparatus: valva wide, costal appendage reaching to 1/2, straight, hardly constricted in middle, finely pointed apically; transtillar base protruding, haired, medially connected by wide, triangular „bridge"; sacculus straight along dorsum, apically bent inwards to 1 /2 width of valva, finely tapering 29 Természettudományi Múzeum Evkönyve
