Smit, F. G. A. M.: The zoological results of Gy. Topál's collectings in South Argentina 4. Siphonaptera

f. g. a. m. smit Apparently quite a common flea south of Lake Nahuel Huapi: it has been collected near Bariloche from Oryzomys lonyicaudatus, Akodon nucus, Akodon varius neocenus, Akodon hirta modestior, Euneomys dabbenei, Notiomys fossor and Irenomys sp. The short type-series was collected in Valparaiso. Chile, from Akodon olivaceus, Akodon longipilis, Phyllotis darwini and Marmosa elegáns. SMIT (1955 : 321) remarked that there are apparently some slight differences in the male genitalia between the Chilean and the Bariloche specimens and that more material from Valparaiso is required for a proper evaluation of those differences. As was to be expected, the specimens from El Bolsón agree with those from Bariloche. Sphinctopsylla ares ( ROTHSCHILD, 1911) From Orgzomys longicaudatus philippii: 1 $, 10. X, 350 m. ; 1 $, 2. Ill, 350 m.; 1 $, 10. IV, 480 m. ; 3$, 12—13. VI, 360 m.; 1 <î 1 $, 14—19 VI, 360 m. ; 1 2, 12—19. VIII, 380 m. ; from Akodon olivaceus brachiotis: 1 <? 1 $, 10. IV, 480 m.; from Akodon longipilis suff usus: 1 <? 2 $, 6—19. VIII, 360 m.; 1 S 2 $, 5. IX, 300 m. ; from Oryzomys longicaudatus j>hilippii or Akodon olivaceus brachiotis 1 $, 11. I, 350 m.; 2 cj 3 ?, 5—11. VIII, 360 m.; from Akodon olivaceus brachiotis or Akodon longipilis suffusus: 2 $, 14—19. VI, 360 m.; from Oryzomys longicaudatus fthilippii or Akodon olivaceus brachiotis or Akodon longipilis suffusus: 4 $, 7—9. IV, 480 m.; from Hattus norvegicus: 1 <?, 13. I, 350 m.; 1 $, 10. VIII. 380 m. Hitherto this nice helmet flea was only known from the type-locality Temuco, Chile (ex Akodon olivaceus) and from the neighbourhood of Bariloche, Rio Negro Territory (ex Oryzomys longicaudatus, Akodon nucus, Akodon varius neocenus, Notiomys fossor, Akodon hirta modestior and Rattus sp.). Family Ithopalopsyllidae Eetinorus levipes (JORDAN & BOTHSCHILD, 1923) (Fig. 5) From Akodon longipilis suffusus: 1 S 3 $, 6—19. VIII. 360 m. A fine discovery, as only the male holotype was known, collected some forty years ago at Cholila in the Chubut Territory, Argentina, ex Ctenomys mendocinus haigi. Description of female (Fig. 5): Anterior to the main rows of mesonotum and metanotum 1—3 and 2—4 small setae respectively, of terga I —IV: 1—4, 2—4, 3—4 and 1—2 setae respectively. (The male holotype has only one row of setae on pronotum, mesonotum and terga I —VII and a single seta below the spiracular fossa on terga 1—III; on the metanotum there is a small seta anterior to the row on each side. The male from El Bolsón has the following numbers of small setae anterior to the main row: mesonotum 2—3, tergum I 1—1, II 1—3, III 1—1). Terminal segments and genitalia (Fig. 5): antesensilial seta marginal. Posterior margin of sternum VII distinctly convex in the lower half, without a sinus; sternum VII with a main row of three setae. Tergum VIII with four or five setae anterior to the spiracular fossa, one jongish seta in the middle of the lateral surface, one or two ventrally and two or three near the posterior margin; about 20 Genital setae, all placed near the posterior margin. Sensilium with about 17 trichoEothria each side. Anal stylet about twice as long as broad, with one long dorso-apical and one minute ventro-
