Halász, M.: The microvegetation of the acrothermae of Harkány

it is a strictly "acid" organism (Geitler 1936, p. 389), that the pH requirements of the species may fluctuate between very wide limits (pH 1—7). This observation is further strenghtened by the very high pH value (6,2) of the thermal occurrence in Harkány. Occurence: a) On the wall of the mud basin in Harkány, d) America (Weed 1897, Tilden 1898, Collins, Holde n&Setchell 1901, Copeland 1936) ; Sumatra Geitler&Ruttner 1936) ; Japan ( O k a d a 1939, Y o n e d a 1940). Classis: CYANOPHYTA Fam. : CHROOCOCCACEAE Genus : Aphanocapsa Naegeli, 1849 Aphanocapsa thermalis Brugg., 1863 (Fig. 12). Jahresber. der Naturf. Gesellsch. Graubündens, Chur VIII, 1863, p. 244 : — Raben hörst, Fl. Eur. Alg., II, 1864—68, p. 50. Measurements of specimens agree with those of type : Rabenh. 1. c. p. 50. diam. cell. 0,0001-0,00016" ; Geitler (Kryptog., Fl., 14, 1930, p. 159), records cell sizes 2,5—4,2 p ; specimens examined by me vary between 3,1 — 4,2 /j,. Colony amorphous, gelatinous. Gelatine homogeneous, cells on margins of colonies with sometimes well visible sheaths. Cells spherical or slightly elliptical, singly, densely beside each other. Colony bluish. Note : Hansgirg (Prodr., 1892, p. 158) describes a variety by the name minor, which differs from the type insofar only as the cells have smaller sizes, attaining only 1 pi. In the material examined by me, there occurred occasionally, besides normally developed cells, some which had smaller measurements (1 —1,5 pi), but they had probably been dividing forms. Gollerbach, Koshinskaja&Polianskij (1953, p. 77) unite the genus Aphanocapsa Naeg. with Microcystis (Kütz.) Elenk., and draw Aphanocapsa thermalis var. minor, owing to its small size (1 —1,5 pi), under the species Microcystis Hansgirgiana (Hansg.) Elenk. Drouet&Daily, and on the other hand, svnonymize the variety with Anacystis montana (Light.) Dr. & Daily ^1956, p. 45). Occurence : a) On the wall of Well I and in the cooling basins ; b) In the Gellérthegy thermae (Halász 1942); Árpád Spring Óbuda, Budapest (Halász 1942); Hajdúszoboszló (Kol 1932); Mezőkövesd (Lovrenkovich 1955); c) Gánócz, Pöstyén (Vilhelm 1924); Topusko (V o u k 1923, 1919); d) Karlsbad (Hansgirg 1892), Italia (Rabenh. 1865), Kamchatka (Boye-Petersen 1946, Elenk in 1914); Japan, Beppu (Y o n e d a 1938). Aphanocapsa fusco-lutea Hansg., 1892 Prodr. Alg. Fl. Böhmen, II, 1892, p. 156. Cells spherical, singly or in pairs, yellowish or bluish green. Colony amorphous, gelatinous, yellowish or brownish. Vegetative cells 1 —1,5 p large, colorless, with diffluent gelatinuous sheath. Gollerbach, Poli-anskij&Koshinskaja (1953, p. 77) draw Aphanocapsa fusco-lutea under the genus Microcystis, synonymizing it with Microcystis Hansgirgiana (Hansg.) Elenk. (E 1 e n k i n, Monogr. Algar. Cyanophyc, 1,1938, p. 130). Drouet&Daily relegate it under the name Anacys10 Természettudományi Múzeum Évkönyve
