Bohus, G. ; Babos, M.: Notes on the occurrence in Hungary of Russula species, with regard to their range in Europe

cracked caps) will not, or hardly, turn yellow. In other respects (e. g. the compactness of the stem, the strongly peppery taste of the flesh, etc.), no great varying tendencies have been observed. The pattern of the spores are : 2b, 2c, 3b, 3c, 4a, 4b, 5a, 5b, 6c, 7a ( S c h a e f f e r's spore table, 1952). Herb. : 34 data from the areas of the Central Mountains and the Transdanubium. Lit. : sub nom. fi. luteotacta Rea var. pseudoemetica : around Szentendre, Mts. Pilis, in oakwoods (Bohus, R.) Moesz (1942) ; sub. nom. R. sardonia : in Querceto petraeaeCarpinetum pannonicum, Mt. Hársbokorhegy, Mts. Buda, Bohus (1952); Mts. Pilis, Bohus (1944) ; sub nom. R. veternosa pp. luteotacta : around Budapest, in deciduous woods, Szemere (1926). Mycocoenological survey data (Bohus&Babos 1958) : In the course of coenological surveys, it was found in the following associations, that is, forest types, in the area of the Hungarian Central Mountains : Luzulo-Quercetum subcarpaticum, Luzulo-Quercetum subcarpaticum fagetosum, Luzulo-Quercetum subcarpaticum myrtilletosum, Luzulo-Quercetum subcarpaticum Dicranum facies, Genisto pilosae-Quercetum petraeae matricum, Querceto petraeae-Carpinetum pannonicum caricetosum pilosae, Potentillo-Quercetum (petraea, cerris) pannonicum Cladonia facies and in a transitional beech stock. Russula luteotacta Rea ssp. rubicunda Pelt.-Bat. It is difficult to delimit R. luteotacta toward R. rubicunda. If all three differentiating characters (the vivid red, rosy red, or cinnabar red cap, the slight or missing yellow hues, the moderately peppery taste) be present collectively, then it seems to be distinct. But, since there are also transitional forms, of which it cannot be decided whether they be R. luteotacta or R. rubicunda, it can be regarded as a subspecies at best. Even in typical R. rubicunda forms, the stem is not infrequentlv flushed to rosy or rosy red. The pattern of the spores conform to 3a, 3b, 3c, 5c, 5b ( S c h a e f f e r's spore table, 1952). Herb.: in the Mts. Buda: around Budakeszi, 5 Oct. 1951, leg. B o h u s & Babos; in the Mts. Bükk : in Querceto petraeae-Carpinetum pannonicum, 3 August 1957, Samassa valley leg. Bohus&Babos. Lit. : in the Mts. Hársbokorhegy, Bohus (1952) ; Budapest (Bohus) Kalmár (1956—57). Mycocoenological survey data (Bohus&Babos 1958) : in the Mts. Bükk : in LuzuloQuercetum subcarpaticum fagetosum, 1 August 1957, Mt. Samassahegy. Russula maculata Quel. & Roze Regarding its European occurrence, a rare species ; rather frequent in England. There are only some few data known from Hungary. Herb. : in the Mts.
