Babos, M.: Notes on the occurrence in Hungary of Lactarius species with regard to their range in Europe

Herb. : in Luzulo-Quercetum fagetosum, Mt. Samassahegy, Mts. Bükk, 7 Sept. 1955 ; 2 July 1956, leg. Bohus & Babos. — Lit. : identical with the data of 1955 as follows below (Babos 1958). Mycocoenological survey data : (Bohus & Babos 1958) : in LuzuloQuercetum dicranosum, Mt. Tökhegy, Mts. Buda, 4 August 1954 ; in LuzuloQuercetum fagetosum, Mt. Samassahegy, Mts. Bükk, 7 Sept., 4 Oct. 1955 ; 2, 11 July 1956. Lactarius picinus Fr. A species frequent in the coniferous woods of the Alps, but occuring also in other mountainous areas. Its occurrence in Hungary became known in 1955, when it fructified in a Luzulo-Quercetum association on acidic soil in the Mts. Bükk. This association meets with the oecological demands of various other and rare pine- and fir-mycorrhizal mushrooms (Bohus 1958 ; Babos 1958), indeed, these rare species are bound to these communities in Hungary, to be regarded as character species. Considering the habitat claims of L. picinus, its further localities of occurrence may be expected from the western borders of the country and in the coniferous woods of the northern areas, as well as in Luzulo-Quercetum associations. Herb. : in Luzulo-Quercetum, Mt. Samassahegy, Mts. Bükk, 20 August 1955, leg. Bohus & Babos. — Lit.: the above herbarium datum (Babos 1958; Bohus 1958). Mycocoenological survey data : (Bohus & Babos 1958) : the same as above. Lactarius lignyotus Fr. There is a single datum known from Hungary of this species, rare in Central Europe, and of a mountainous character. Szemére (1926, 1927) collected it in a coniferous wood in the Zugliget, Mts. Buda. The same item is mentioned by Moesz (1942). There is no herbarium specimen in the Museum. Lactarius ichoratus Batsch ex Fr. This species is frequent in Central Europe and France (Neuhoff). It became known from one site only in Hungary (Mt. Csúcshegy, Mts. Buda), where it fructified in rather large numbers. The characteristics of our home material agree completely with those discussed by N e u h o f f , with the sole exception that the milk turns yellow but slowly. Bresadola makes a similar statement (Tab. 376, sub nom. L. quietus is, according to Neu h off, L. ichoratus). Herb. : in silva mixta, Mt. Csúcshegy, Mts. Buda, 24 Sept. 1957, 6 July 1958, leg. Bohus & Babos. — Lit. : Szemére notes that its occurrence is to be expected in Hungary (1926). Lactarius serifluus DC. ex Fr. It is missing from the oakless areas of Northern Europe, otherwise it is a fa r-ranging, not unfrequent species. It is frequent and well distributed in Hun13 Természettudományi Múzeum Évkönyve
