Babos, M.: Notes on the occurrence in Hungary of Lactarius species with regard to their range in Europe
August, 9 Sept. 1955 ; in Genisto pilosae-Quercetum petraeae 12 July 1956 ; in the Mts. Zemplén : in Luzulo-Quercetum fagetosum, Mt. Nagykerekhegy, 17 Sept., 7, 25 Oct., 14 Nov. 1958. Lactarius aspideus Fr. N e u h o f f designates L. aspideus, in the strict sense, as a species growing beneath Salix trees, separating the form fructifving in mainly hornbeamoakwoods and of larger spores as var. flavidus (Boud.) Neuhoff. He notes, however, that it needs investigations whether the differences be constant enough. The form growing beneath Salix trees, and shown, by the way, with any certainty only from Northern European countries hitherto, was not found yet in Hungary. On the other hand, the variety fructifying in hornbeam-oakwoods and missing from the Northern European countries (and rare also in other Continental areas), is not rare in Hungary. Ot the Lactarius species with milk turning lilac in our country, it is surely the most frequent one. However, the examination of the spores of our herbarium materials resulted in the fact that sporal size is not largen than, but more or less identical with, that of the nominate form. It was therefore established that the differences in the size of the spores between the nominate form and the variety is not constant. So, the variety growing under Salix trees can be se gregated only by its differences concerning its geographical range and its mycorrhizal connections. Herb. : in the Mts. Buda : in silva frondosa, Budakeszi, 2 Sept. 1951, leg. Kostyál; 2 Oct. 1951, leg. Bohus; in Querceto petraeae-Carpinetum pannonicum, 28 June 1952, leg. Bohus; in silva, near Normafa, 18 August 1951, leg. Korponai; in Querceto petraeae-Carpineto pannonicum, Mt. Tökhegy, 31 August, 13, 24 Sept. 1955, leg. Bohus & Babos; in the Mts. Pilis : in silva, 2 Sept. 1955, leg. Michnay; in the Mts. Bükk : in silva frondosa, Vöröskő valley, 6 Sept. 1955, leg. Bohus & Babos; in silva frondosa, near Tamáskút, 4 Oct. 1955, leg. Bohus & Babos; in the Mts. Zemplén : m Querceto petraeae-Carpinetum pannonicum, Kishuta, 3 Sept. 1958, leg. Bohus & Babos. Lit. : the data of the 1955 occurrences, on the basis of the herbarium material (Babos 1958). Lactarius porninsis Roll. A very rare species in Europe, with the exception of the Alps (N e u h o f f). Hardly known from Hungary. Numerous specimens were found on 3 occasions near larches in a mixed pine-wood, in 1958. Herb. : beneath Larix, in pineto mixto, Mt. Nagy kerekhegy, Mts. Zemplén, 17 Sept., 26 Oct., 14 Nov. 1958. leg. Bohus & Babos. Lactarius acerrimus Britz. This large-spored species of the Zonarius-gxowp occurs but sporadically in Hungary, though it may be regarded as the most frequent species of this
