the one hand and whose water is mixed up by affluent fresh water on the other hand, — or are exposed to the effects of strong biotic factors. Such biotops are the swimming pools and the thermal overflows. Though their specific and in­dividual numbers are the highest in biotops of this kind, they do not influence the dominant character of the Cyanophyceae even here as they do not quanti­tatively approach, concerning their occurences, the Cyanophyceae. £J The thermal overflows. The microvegetation of the thermal overflows develop in connection with the effects of temperature, the foreign polluting material introduced by the affluent and allochtonous derivative waters. Temperature decreases, from the very first sections of the many kilometers long overflow, from 52 °C to 28 °C, or even under 28 °C along the shores. In the first section, the preponderant majority are Cyanophyceae (67 per cent). The temperature of the lower reaches sinks, owing to the influx of colder waters and to natural cooling off, to 28 °C. The amount of blue-green algae sinks accordingly to a considerably lower value (47 per cent), whilst the number of Chlorophyceae increases to 40 per cent. Besides of these, there are only certain flagellates and sulphur bacteria here, and also this latter constitute but a fractional proportion of the whole vegetation. The sulphur bacteria, represented by some species in the sulphureous waters of Harkány, are to be found in higher quantities primarily in biotops where hydrogen sulphide is freed in considerable amounts. Such are the hydro­gen sulphide and oxydization zones, and also the hot water overflows. The meagre amounts of ferro-bacteria are tied up with the presence in the water of soluble iron compounds deriving from the iron content of the pipeline systems. The developement and constitution of the microvegetational communities of the Harkány thermae presents the typical example of the microphytous communities of our home acrothermae.
