Soós, L. ; Schlesch, H.: Notes on some Arctic Mollusca from Greenland

XXI. ANNALES MUSEI NATIUNALLS HUNGARICI. 11)24. NOTES ON SOME ARCTIC MOLLUSCA FROM GREENLANI). By I)r. L. Soos and HANS SCHLESCH. (With 4 figures.) The fauna of the land and freshwater Mollusea of Greenland is but very imperfectly known ; we are, therefore, indebted very much to Mr. JOHN MOLLER of Godthaab in GreenJand for sending us specimens in aleohoi thus enabling us to make sonie preliminary notes on several species inhabiting that island. Greenland is situated between 59° 54' and 82° 30' N. lat. It is a mountainous polar-land, the interior of which is covered by glaciers, leaving free from ice but a narrow strip of the w r estern eoast, split by long narrow fiords, and encircled by numerous small isles. The eastern coasts arise very steep from the sea. Glimate is severe, the summer very short, the middle temperaturo during summer is about -f- 3,3°C, the middle temperature of the ycar, however, — 10,4°C (72° 48'N. lat.), and 1, 5° C (64° 8' N. lat.). The Ilora is poor and extreme arclic, containing about 350 species of Phanerogamae. The fauna of land and freshwater Mollusca of Greenland is — as far as known up to the present — composed of 10 species enumerated by MoRCH l ) ancl POSSELT 2 ), viz. : Vitrina angelicae MOLLER (V. pellucida MULLJ Euconulus Fabricii BECK (E. fulvus MVLJ,.)
